Description

NOV. Vl0, 1936. 1 GlLGENBACH 2,060,729
POCKET HA'NDKERCHIEF S IMULATION FiledMay 15 1935 Foa MEN I Zea zgmac ATToRNEv WITNESS Patented Nov. 10, 1936 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 3 Claims.
The invention relates to an apparel ornament and more especially to a pocket handkerchief simulation.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of an article of this character, wherein there will be exposed from the breast pocket of an outer garment the folded effect of a handkerchief for visible appearance to give effect as if the ordinary'handkerchief had been tucked into the pocket and at the same time the carrier for the article can bear advertising matter of a selected merchandiser, as for example, a haberdashery or the like.
Another object ofthe invention is the provision of an article ofthis character, wherein the imitative handkerchief will be held in a fashion simf ilar to the ordinary handkerchief when folded for presentation in the pocket of an outer garment and for the appearance of a real handkerchief and thus eliminating the necessity for the use of an ordinary pocket handkerchief.
` A further object of the invention is the provision of an article of this character, which is simple in construction, neat and attractive in appearance, readily mountable in the pocket of an outer garment, having ornamental effect, durable, and inexpensive to manufacture.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, which discloses the preferred embodiment of the invention and pointed out in the claims hereunto appended.
` In the accompanying drawing:
Figure 1 is a pictorial illustration having associated therewith the article constructed in accordance with the invention.
Figure 2 is an elevation of the article.
Figure 3 is a sectional view on the line I-i of Figure 2 looking in the direction of the arrows.-
Figure 4 is a plan view of the article in unfolded condition.
Figure 5 is a plan view of the insert for such article.
Similar reference characters indicate correhas the outwardly tapered tab ends I3, these be-y ing similar to the corners of a real handkerchief.
and are disposed in irregularly overlapping relstion to each other. The easement I2 in one side is formed with a substantially squared opening I4 of a size to permit the introduction of a stiifening piece I5 made from transparent material, preferably celluloid, the piece at opposite ends 5 being tapered as at I6 corresponding to the tapered formation of the tabs I3 and is provided at the transverse center with a fold line I'l.
The piece is introduced through the opening Il interiorly of the easement I2 with the ends IB 10 seated in the tabs I3 adapted to accommodate such ends and upon the folding of this piece I5 on the crease line I1 the article can be slipped into the pocket provided by the envelope I0 and made secure therein by a paper clip I8. The envelope is then passed into the pocket I9 of an outer garment and the tabs I3 of the casement I2 will protrude from without the pocket I9 while the envelope I0 will be concealed therein and in this manner there will be presented in as- 20 sociation with the garment 20 a handkerchief effect worn within the pocket I9 of such garment. In this manner there is no need for the use of a real handkerchief to be worn in thepocket I 9 as is the custom and thus the article serves as a sham handkerchief for pocket wear. There are at each end of the easement I2 a pair of tabs Il and each pair are united by the hemstitching a or in any other suitable manner so that the piece I5 at its end will be poeketed by these tabs and 30 such piece cannot work through those tabs pocketed thereby or such tabs will not work downwardly and expose the piece Il when the article is within the garment pocket.
What is claimed is:
1. An article of the character described comprising a easement, a pair of tabs simulating handkerchief corners united to effect a pocket. and a stiifener within the casing and extended into said pocket.
2. An article of the character described comprising a easement folded on itself, tabs simulating handkerchief corners on the easement, means fastening the corners together for effecting a pocket, a stiifener piece within the easement and received in the pocket, and an envelope accommodating the easement and the stiifener piece when folded intermediate of their lengths.
3. An article of the character described comprising a easement folded on itself, tabs simulating handkerchief corners on the`casement, means fastening the* corners together for eifecting a pocket, a stiifener piece within the easement and received in the pocket, and an envelope accommodating the easement and the stiifener piece when'folded intermediate of their lengths, the said easement having an opening for the introduction of the stiffener piece therein.
