CH EST J IWAIST HIPS INVENTOR Writ. I She S Patented May 18, 1954 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE DATA CARDCASE Marie I. Sheils, Syracuse, N. Y. Application October 17, 1952, Serial No. 315,287
1 Claim. 1
The present invention relates to a data card case and it consists in the combinations, constructions and arrangements of parts herein described and claimed.
Generally the invention comprises a novel case having an elongated body divided into a rear panel to one end of which is integrally and flexibly connected a front panel and to the other end of which is integrally and flexibly connected a flap which is adapted to overlie the front panel when the device is in closed position and which is provided with a snap fastener member which cooperates with a snap fastener member upon the outer face of the rear panel whereby to latch the device in closed position. The inner faces of both the rear andfront panels have transverse slits out therein to define transverse straps therebetween whereby a tape measure of flexible character may be mounted along such inner faces in folded condition. The free end portion of the inner face of the rear panel is provided with a pocket for the reception of one end of such folded tape measure and the outer face of the rear panel is provided with a pocket formed of a flexible transparent material whereby a data card may be removably mounted therein. The device is such that the cards may contain personal data relating to the measurements of the person carrying the device so that in ordering ready made clothes or tailored clothes, it is a simple and quick matter to present the necessary data to the sales person or other person interested in the same. Stores may retain a copy of such personal data card for both men and women to thus enhance and speed up the ordering of clothes which may be ordered by telephone through such data cards existing in the store. Th device forms an ideal advertising medium in that it may be given away by stores to advertise and call attention to a new and separate department in such store wherein such personal data cards may be maintained for the use of the patrons of the store.
It is accordingly an object of the invention to provide a novel carrying case of the character set forth.
Another object of the invention is to provide, in a device of the character set forth, novel means for reinovably mounting therein a personal data card or the like.
A further object of the invention is to provide a device of the character set forth which is simple in construction. inexpensive to manufacture and yet e fective and efficient in use.
Other and further objects of the invention will become apparent from a reading of the following specification taken in conjunction with the drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of an embodiment of the invention shown in closed position,
Figure 2 is a view similar to Figure 1 but showing the device in opened position,
Figure 3 is a plan view of a personal data card for women, and
Figure 4 is a plan view of a personal data card designed for men.
Referring more particularly to the drawing, there is shown therein a device of the character set forth comprising an elongated body divided into a rear panel 10 to one end of which is hingedly and integrally connected a front panel I l and to the other end of which is likewise connected a relatively short flap l 2.
The inner face of the flap I2 has centrally mounted thereon a, snap fastener member l3 which is adapted to coact with a snap fastener member carried upon the outer face of the panel H whereby to maintain the device in closed. condition.
The inner faces of both the panels l0 and II are provided with pairs of spaced parallel transversely extending slits I 4 defining therebetween in each case a transversely extending strap [5 and the free end portion of the panel H has mounted upon the inner face thereof a pocket I 6.
A flexible tape measure is indicated at H and is designed to be mounted, when in folded condition, beneath the straps l5 with one end thereof mounted in the pocket it, as clearly shown in Figure 2.
To the outer face of the rear panel in there is aiiixed a transparent pocket NA in which may be removably mounted a data card i8 such as is illustrated in Figures 3 and 4. In Figure 3 there is shown a womans personal data card which contains spaces for the name, address, telephone number, birthday, anniversary data and various measurements such as bust, hips, waist et cetera, together with the sizes of various articles such as dresses, coats and the like. In Figure 4 there is shown a mans personal data card which likewise contains spaces for name, address, et cetera as in the womans personal data card together with measurements of the chest, waist, hips and the like and the sizes of coat, trousers, hat, gloves and the like.
In operation, it will be apparent that th card is may be inserted into the pocket HA and the data contained thereon may be read through the pocket I'lA whenever desired. It will also be apparent that the tape measure I! may be removed from the straps l5 and pocket I6 whenever desired and, for convenience, one end of such tape measure I! may be sewed or otherwise attached to the inner face of the panel I0.
While but one form of the invention has been shown and described herein, it will be readily apparent to those skilled in the art that many minor modifications may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the appended claim.
What is claimed is:
A data card case comprising front and rear panels integrally and flexibly connected together, one of said panels foldable over the other of; said panels, one of said panels having a flap at its free end. with a fastener element thereon and being slitted transversely thereof to provide parallel straps adapted to receive and retain a folded tape measure, the other of said panels having at its free end a short pocket accessible to the folded tape measure to retain the end of the tape measure and over which the flap of the one panel can be extended upon the panels being folded one upon the other, said other panel also being slitted transversely and providing a transverse strap through whioh the folded tape measure may be extended, one of said panels having a transparent pocket on the exterior surface thereof, the opening to said pocket being adjacent to the free end thereof, and a data card extended into the pocket and having data readable through the outer wall of said pocket.
