Description
Dec. 3, 1935. o. TRICKEL 2,022,793
POCKET DI SPLAY DEVICE Filed June 18, 1934 INVENTOR AT RNEY Patented Dec. 3, 1935 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 2 Claims.
The invention relates to pocket displaying devices, and has for its object to provide a device of this character comprising a flexible member adapted to be disposed within the chest pocket of a coat, and having portions of a handkerchief attached to the upper end thereof, preferably handkerchief corners, which handkerchief corners extend to the outside of the open end of the pocket for display purposes, and weight means at the lower end of the flexible member for holding the device within the pocket and particularly against upward displacement.
A further object is to form the pocket receiving portion of the device from pliable material whereby it will conform to varying curvatures without causing a bulging as would be the case if the device were formed from a spring material, as distinguished from a pliable one.
A further object is to provide the device with a pocket on one side thereof in which articles may be placed, which articles form the weight means, for retaining the device in the pocket.
With the above and other objects in view the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter set forth, shown in the drawing, described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention may be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device showing the weight member formed from shot.
Figure 2 is a perspective view of a modified form of the device wherein it is provided with a comb pocket on one side thereof and a mirror.
Figure 3 is a further modified form perspective View of the device, showing a card receiving case on one side thereof.
Figure 4 is a vertical transverse sectional view through the device in a pocket and the weight member formed from a solid pliable bar.
Referring to the drawing, the numeral I designates handkerchief corners, which are sewed or otherwise secured at 2 to the upper end of the pliable substantially rectangular shaped body member 3 which is adapted to be received in the upper outer coat pocket 4 of a coat 5 for displaying the handkerchief ends. The member 3, being pliable, will conform to transverse and vertical curvatures of the coat pocket thereby preventing bulging of the pocket. The pliable member 3 is preferably formed from registering layers of material 6 between which the handkerchief ends are sewed.
A pocket 1 is formed in the lower end of the pliable member 3 and has disposed therein a weight 8 which may be formed of any material, for instance lead or shot 8 shown in Figure 1 so that it will conform to the curvature transversely of the body and prevent projections at 5 opposite sides of the lower end of the pocket, as would be the case if the weight were a rigid one.
Referring to Figure 2, in this form one of the layers of material 6 is provided with a transverse slit 9 for the reception of a comb III which forms a weight means for the pliable member 3 and particularly in connection with a mirror ll carried thereby.
Referring to Figure 3 wherein a further modification is shown, in this form, one side of the pliable member 3 is provided with a card receiving pocket I2 in which cards, business or visiting, may be placed and are held by the flap H. In this form the cards l3 form the weight means. if desired various advertising matter may be placed on the device, and the device distributed as an advertising novelty, for instance by cleaners, who could insert one of the devices in the pocket, having handkerchief ends properly color 25 schemed in relation to the coat.
From the above it will be seen that a handkerchief display device is provided which is formed from pliable material, which will conform to all curvatures of the chest and the weight means 30 extending across the lower end thereof will also conform to the transverse curvature of the chest, thereby preventing a bulge of the coat at opposite sides of the pocket, which would detract from the value of the device.
The invention having been set forth what is claimed as new and useful is:
1. A handkerchief display device for use in a pocket in an article of clothing, said device comprising a flat flexible member of a size receivable within the pocket and adapted to conform to the contour of the body of the user and extending downwardly into the pocket, a handkerchief portion carried by the fiat flexible member and adapted to extend above the open end of the pocket and weight means carried by the flat flexible body at its lower end and extending transversely thereof and formed from pliable material whereby it will conform to the contour of the wearers body.
2. A device as set forth in claim 1 wherein the weight means is formed from a plurality of members whereby the weight as a whole will conform to the contour of the body of the wearer.
