Description

SCARF SUPPORT Filed Oct, 14, 1960 MELVIN BERKOW INVENTOR ATTORNEY BY 779 A United States Patent ()fiice 3,065,946 Patented Nov. 27, 1962 3,065,946 SCARF SUPPORT Melvin Berkow, Bethesda, Md., assignor to Lee Fashions, Inc., Baltimore, Md., a corporation of Maryland Filed Oct.14, 1960, Ser. No. 62,602 4 Claims. (Cl. 248-317) This invention relates to a support and sales tab for the display of textiles.
The dipslay of figured silks is most pleasing when the material is allowed to fall in folds while supported at one corner. It is a problem in the retail trade to thus display a stock without running the risk of damage from staples and the usual clips being torn away from the material by careless tugging and handling by the customer.
It is, therefore, an object of the present invention to provide a support tab for delicate textiles which provides a strong, non-damaging distributed anchorage to the material.
Another object of this invention is to provide an interlocking grip arrangement for a price tag for textiles.
Still another object of this invention is to provide a onepiece paper hook of simple inexpensive construction for display of scarves and kerchiefs which can be securely clasped to the material, is not easily detached accidentally, and which can be readily removed without tools from the displayed article.
Other objects and attendant advantages of this invention will become more readily apparent and understood from the detailed specification and accompanying drawings in which:
FIG. 1 is a layout plan view for blanking the novel support tab according to the invention;
FIG. 2 is a front elevation of the support tab showing 0 it attached to a scarf;
FIG. 3 is a back view of the support tab of FIG. 2; and
:FIG. 4 is a perspective view obliquely from the rear showing the support tab in the process of attachment to a corner of a textile article.
Referring now to the details of the drawings as illustrated in FIGS. 1 to 4, the novel scarf support tab according to the invention is designated generally by reference numeral 10. As shown in FIG. 1, the tab 10 is blanked out from one sheet of cardboard in the pattern indicated to provide two pattern halves 12 and 14 which are divided by a fold line 16.
Each half 12 and 14 of the tab 10 is punched for a slot 18 opening at one end at the side of the pattern and terminating centrally thereof in an eye 20.
The half 14 of tab 10 is provided at its end with a semi-circular tongue 22, and a narrow elongated slot 26 which runs parallel to the fold line 16. Also parallel to fold line 16 but in the other half 12 of the tab 10 there is lanced a slit 24.
When the halves 12 and 14 of the tab 10 are folded together on fold line 16, the slots 18 and eyes 20 in each half 12 or 14 superimpose as shown in FIGS. 2 and 3, thus providing a strong two-ply hook-like tab 10 on which any desired indicia 28 such as a trade name, price, etc. may be printed thereon.
The tab 10 is attached to the textile material such as a scarf S as shown best in FIG. 4. A corner of the scarf S is first reeved through the slot 26 and placed against the lanced slit 24. The tongue 22 of tab half 14 is forced against this corner of the scarf S and pressed through the slit 24 smoothly carrying the scarf material with it.
Because the slot 26 is located above the slit 24 and the tongue 22, any tugging on the body of scarf S thus tends to more securely anchor the material around the tongue 22. Further, because of its semi-circular shape, the tongue 22 distributes such stress evenly with no danger to the textile.
In use, a plurality of articles such as kerchiefs or the scarves S mentioned are supported by the eyes 20 of the tabs 10 on suitable rods or racks for effective display in the sales room.
Obviously many modifications and variations of the present invention are possible in light of the above teachings. It is, therefore, to be understood that within the scope of the appended claims, the invention may be practiced otherwise than as specifically described.
What is claimed is:
1. A support tab for use in displaying an article of merchandise, comprising, an elongated sheet of material folded in half along a fold line to provide substantially two pattern halves, each said pattern half having a corresponding side slot provided in one of its sides extending substantially parallel to said fold line and then substantially transversely toward said fold line and terminating short thereof for forming a hook for said support tab, one of said pattern halves being provided with an arcuate tongue element at its end opposite said fold line and an elongated slot positioned substantially parallel to said fold line for receiving therethrough a portion of said article of merchandise to be displayed, the other pattern half being provided with a lanced slit positioned substantially parallel to said fold line and in opposition to said elongated slot in said one pattern half and of greater length than said elongated slot for receiving said arcuate tongue element and portion of said article of merchandise.
'2. A support tab, comprising, a narrow sheet of material folded in half along a fold line to provide substantially two identical portions, each said portion having an inwardly extending slot along corresponding sides thereof terminating substantially transversely to said fold line and short thereof to form a hook for said support tab, one of said portions being provided with an arcuate tongue element at its end opposite said fold line and an elongated slot positioned therein for receiving therethrough a portion of said article of merchandise to be displayed, the other portion being provided with a slit in opposition to said elongated slot and of greater width than said elongated slot for receiving said tongue element and said portion of said article of merchandise.
=3. A support tab for use in displaying an article of merchandise, comprising, an elongated sheet of material folded in half along a fold line to provide substantially two pattern halves, each said pattern half having a corresponding slot extending inwardly in one of its sides and terminating substantially transversely to said fold line and short thereof for forming a hook for said support tab, one of said pattern halves being provided with a semicircular tongue element at its end opposite said fold line and an elongated slot positioned substantially parallel to said fold line and intermediate the ends of said one pattern half for receiving therethrough a portion of said article of merchandise to be displayed, the other pattern half being provided with a slit positioned substantially parallel to said fold line in opposition to said elongated slot in said one pattern half and of greater width than said elongated slot for receiving said arcuate tongue element, whereby when said article of merchandise is passed through said elongated slot and positioned over said tongue element and said tongue element is inserted in said slit, said article of merchandise can be readily displayed when said support tab is attached to a hanger by means of said hook.
4. A support tab for use in displaying an article of merchandise, comprising, an elongated sheet of flexible material folded in half along a fold line to provide substantially two identical pattern halves, each said pattern half having a corresponding slot provided in one of its sides and terminating centrally thereof in an eye positioned substantially transversely to said fold line, and short of said fold line for forming a hook for said support tab, one of said pattern halves being provided with a semi-circular tongue element on its end opposite said fold line and an elongated slot positioned substantially parallel to said fold line and intermediate the fold line and its end opposite thereto for receiving therethrough a portion of said article of merchandise to be displayed, the other pattern half being provided with a lanced slit positioned substantially parallel to said fold line in opposition to said elongated slot for receiving said semicircular tongue element, whereby when said article of merchandise is passed through said elongated slot and positioned over said tongue element and said tongue element is inserted in said slit in said other pattern half, said article of merchandise can be readily displayed when said support tab is attached to a mount by said hook.
