Patented Oct. 9. 1945 -"2 ,386,'642. 4 DISPLAY D VICE: ,7 Frank H. Waggoner, Pearl Riven-N. Application October 16, 1942, Serial Nb. 462.271
2 Claims.
My invention relates to an improvement in a display device with integral supporting stand and the novelty consists in the adaptation'and arrangement of parts as will be more fully hereinafter pointed out.
itself as shown in Fig. 3 at the right hand end thereof and is adapted to engage through slot I2 the tab I3. 'And the outer end of 9 as it is brought up into the position as shown in Fig. 4 allows the 'tab member I3 to pass completely through the slot I2. So the end of the brace 9 at It which lies between the outer end of the slot I2 and the outer end of the brace 9 will just fit into the cut-out I4 and lock between the tabs I5 and which looks in a positively secured position and 7 which does not interfere with either side of the display.
My device has solved this problem and furnishes in a single unitary structure a device which is adapted to show the illustration or advertising matter on both sides of the card and at the same time carry a self-supporting base which is integral therewith but which by the mere folding and engaging of the parts becomes a complete self-supporting unitary structure supported on its own base so that it is locked against accidental dislodgement.
Referring to the drawing, Fig. 1 is a plan view of my complete device in the flat condition; 7
Fig. 2 is the same as Fig. 1 but with the advertising or display feature element folded down at right angles to the rest of the device; 7
Fig; 3 is the same as 'Fig. 2 showing the right hand end folded as required for setting up my device; v
Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the fully set up device;
Fig. 5 is an end view of Fig. 4 looking in from either end.
In the drawing, 6 is an advertising or display element of my structure which has a base member 1 integral therewith but with a scored line 8 on which the element 6 is adapted to be folded back at right angles to the base 1. The base I also has at each end a bracemember9 which is scored at I0 and I I so that it can be folded back on itself as shOWn at the right hand end of-Fig. 3. Said brace members 9 also have a slot I2 running crosswise of the middle section of 9 and the outer edges of the display elements 6 have a tab I3, a cut-out M with a projecting tab I5 above said cutout I4 while the tab I3 is immediately below said cut-out I4. The folded brace 9 is folded back on The. display element 6 is thus held in rigid vertical position supported on base 'I at both ends 7 by the braces 9 engaged by. means of slots I2 over the tabs I3 and these braces 9 are securely locked in position against accidental dislodgement by the portions I6 which are final locking mediums as thus engaged between the tabs I5 and I3 inthe cut-outs I4.
It will-be understood that my structure may be made with only one brace 9 which being securely locked in position will effect a definite rigidly secured base I .So as to adequately support the display element 6, but the use of the two braces 9 one at each end ensures a support to the display member 6 of such a rigid nature that it is substantially impossible to accidentally knock over or dislodge the display element 6 when in use on the base 'I supported by braces 9 locked securely in position by means of the portions I6 engaged in the cut-outs I 4 between the tabs I5 and I 3.
'It Will'be understood that my device is adapted to many kinds of advertising matter or displays both large and small as well as to place cards and toys. It has not only the novelty of a firm base which is definitely locked into a secure position against accidental dislodging thereby ensuring the permanency of the advertising or display being maintained in proper display position but it is also adapted to the novel feature of displaying the advertisement or display item on both sides of 6 without any interfering supporting leg by the mere imprinting of such advertising or display matter on both sides of 6 as my device is in the flat position as shown in Fig. 1. In toys and many advertising or place card embodiments of my device the front and back of the object can be readily shown on the front and back of 6.
Another advantage of my device is that it is made and transported in the first or flat position and that it can be readily set up or disengaged and packed flat for shipment or transporting and readily and quickly set up again for use.
My device can be made of any suitable material for advertising purposes, toys, place cards or similar articles, and is adapted to many variations element, a display element connected therewith and adapted to turn up at right angles thereto, a looking out out and projecting element at each end of said display 'element, brace elements at each end of said base adapted to fold back on themselves and form back turned portions, the
outer ends of said back turned portions again folding upwardly and having slots therein adapted to fit over said display projecting element's'and' the upper ends of said brace elements locking positively into said cut outs on each end of the display element.
2. In a single sheet self supporting display card, the combination of a base element, a display element connected to said base element and adapted to turn up at, right angles thereto, a projecting element and a locking cut out element immediately above the projecting element at each end of said display element, brace elements at each end of said base adapted to fold back thereon, aid brace elements terminating in ends which turn up at right angles to saidbase andhaving slots which engage over said display projecting elements and the upper ends of said upturned brace elements locking positively into engagement in said cut outs on ,each end of the display element.
