Description

I Dec. 11-, 1923.
O. B. CARSON DISPLAY DEVISE FOR ADVERTISING PURPOSES Filed Nov. 24. 1922 Patented Dec. 1 1, 1923.
UNITED" STATES oswarn B. CARSON, or BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
DISPLAY DEVICE FOR ADVERTISING PURPOSES.
Application flied November 24, 1922. Serial No. 602,937.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, OSWALD B. CARSON, residing at Brooklyn, county of Kings, and- State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Display Devices for Advertising Purposes, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to'make and use the same.
This invention relates to display devices, more particularly to a display card and to means for removably holding articles on said display card and the objects of the invention are to provide a display card with integral display holding means, made at small. expense, that will removably hold in an attractive manner a variety of articles.
Further objects of the invention are to provide a display card with a plurality of holding means arranged to interlock one with the other when a plurality of articles are placed in position on said display card.
Referring to the drawings:
Figure 1 is a front view of a display card, made in accordance with the present invention, arranged in the present instance to hold a plurality of comb cases.
Figure 2 is a sectional view on the line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a detail sectional view on the line 3-3 of Figure 1.
Figure 4 is a front view of the display card shown in Figure 1, on a reduced scale, showing the integral holding means on tabs in fiat position.
In the drawings 1 designates a suitable display card preferably made of card-board or thick paper, although the same can be made of metal or other suitable material.
In the presentinstance and in accordance with the present invention, the display card 1 is cut to provide one or more integral tabs 2, as shown in Figure 41 In the present instance each tab 2 is cut to provide a head 3, a neck 4 and a base 5. The tab 2 is arranged to be bent outward away from the face of the display card as the head 3 of the tab is bent backward to engage the back of the cut out neck portion of the display card in order-t0 holdarticles, for example a comb case 6 removably in position as clearly shown in Figures 1, 2 and 3.
In order to more securely lock the head 3 of the tab when only one tab is used to hold an article such as a comb case, as above each other.
, in position.
described, the opposite sides of the cut out neck portions of the display card are provided with locking recesses 7 into which the bottom edges of the head 3 enters to prevent the same slipping upward. It is to be noted that the recesses 7 are of sufiicient depth to retain the head 3 without permitting the same to slip through. It is also to be noted that the under side of the head 3 is preferably cut at a slight upward angle as shown at 8 to more readily engage the recesses 7 to retain'the same in locked position.
If it is desired to hold more than one article on the display card similar to the comb case 6 additional tabs 2 can be cut in the display card in which case the additional tabs are preferably cut to overlap The base 5 of the upper'tab 2 in each instance is cut sufliciently broad to permit of the head 3 of the lower tab 2 being cut out of the base without in any way injuring the effectiveness of the upper tab.
The overlapping of the tabs 2 when more than one tab is used not; only acts to hold the articles to be supported closely in position in order to save space, but also acts to lock the heads 3 of the lower tabs 2 firmly By referring to Figure 2 it will be seen that each of the comb cases 6 acts to securely hold and lock the head 3 of the lower tab 2 in position in the neck por-.
tion of the display card, the head 3 of the upper tab 2 being securely held and locked by means of the locking recesses 7, as be fore described.
The relatively broad base 5 of each of the tabs 2 not only afiords means for cutting out lower tabs and locking them in position, but it also. provides a relatively broad support for the article to be displayed, holding the same firmly in position and in alignment.
From the above it will be seen that the display card out as shown in Figure 4 is assembled for use by inserting a comb case, or other article, behind the lower tab 2, the head 3 thereof being bent backward to engage the back of its eorresponding'cut out neck portion. Another comb case, or other article, is then inserted behind the tab 2 immediately above the lower tab 2, the lower portion of the. comb case, or other article, acting .to lock the head 3 of the lower tab 2 firmly in position. This operation is repeated until all the comb cases, or other articles, are held in position by the tabs, the upper one of which is preferably provided with means for locking the same in the recesses 7.
The comb cases 6 or other articles can -readily be removed at any time by sliding the same sidewise in either direction.
\Vhile the invention has been described with particular reference to the details of construction the same is not to be considered as limited thereto, as many changes can be made and still fall within the scope of the invention set forth in the following claims.
\Vhat. I claim is:
1. A displ-a device comprising in combination .a disp y card, an integral tab having a free end cut from said display card and means on the free end of said tab to engage the opposite sides of the cut out portion of said display card when the tab is bent outward to hold articles to be displayed. a
2. A display device comprising in combination a display card, an integral tab having a free end cut from said display card, a head on the free end of said tab arranged to engage the opposite sides of the cut out portion of said display card when the .tab is bent outward to hold articles to be displa ed.
3. A display evice comprising in combination a display card, a plurality of overlapping integral tabs having free ends out from said display card, means on the free ends of said tabs to engage the out out portions of said display card when the tabs are belant gultvgirclll to llOk} algticlles to lbe dispaye w ic act to 00 teovera pi free ands of said tabs. p ng 4. A display device comprising in combination a display card, an integral tab hav-. ing a free end cut from said display card, a ead on the free end of said tab arranged to engage recesses adjacent the out out tion of said display card when theta is bent outward to hold articles to be displa ed.
n testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two sub.- scribing witnesses.
OSWALD B. CARSON.
