In the accomplishment of this purpose, the case j is provided with suitable compartments wherein may be retained sucharticles as a lip stick, rouge compact,loose facial powder," a mirror, and'puliis for applying both the rouge and powder. The nature orrkind of the particular cosmetics-which the case retains may, of course,jbe varied widely.

An exeinplif cation of my invention in its preferred form is illustrated inthe accompanying drawing in-the manner following:

Such a depression has 'a contour consist ng of two concavsion of the top plate is a sifter lid 26 having a pivotal connection 27 therewith at a point which is close to the two cups and equidistantly from each other. This lid 26 has capacity for a limited swinging movement within the depression 24- wherein it is accommodated, and is provided with a plurality of slots 28 adapted to register with the plate slots when the lid is moved laterally to one extreme position. The powder which is stored beneath the top plate may accordingly escape through these openings when the parts are related as shown in Fig. '2. If, however, the lid be moved to an opposite position, as shown in Fig. l, the openings 25 in the top plate are closed with the result that further escape of powder is prevented. At the opposite ends oi the lid are provided upstanding lugs 29 which may be readily engaged by the finger to facilitate shifting of the lid. It may be noted that this lid need execute only a slight movement in order to open or cover the openings 25, and that its extreme positions are determined by engagement with the margins of the depression 24-, as best indi cated in Fig. 1.

lVith a case of the kind described, I may also associate a powder puff 30, the same being receivable between the top plate and the cover. Such a puff may have a diameterthe full width of the case. I am accordingly able in the present case to pro vide both a powder pull and a mirror of maximum size, also capacity for a very considerable quantity of loose powder, the same being readily releasable without disturbing the positions of any other parts. The case may be used without any concern as to its contents becoming disarranged or working loose, regardless of whether or not the cover be opened, for the reason that the articles carried therein are all secured in place through the instrunientality of very simple devices.

I claim: v

1. A vanity case having a bottom and marginal walls within which is fitted a frame having a top plate whereby to define a compartment suitable for loose ma terial, a pair of pockets depending from the top plate into said compartment each adapted to receive an article, a lid slidably mounted upon the top plate adapted in one position to close one pocket, and to present a portion of itself in overlying relation to the other pocket whereby to confine an article therewithin, and sifter means movable independently of the lid for controlling the discharge of loose material from the compartment, substantially as described.

2.. A vanity case having a bottom and providing a mounting for a transversely extending plate which is spaced from the case bottom, a pair of cups, each adapted for the reception of an article, depending through the plate into the space therebelow, means whereby one cup is connected fast to the plate and the other is removably supported thereby, and movable closure means for the space below the plate adapted at times to release loose material therefrom, substantially as described.

3. A vanity case having a compartment enclosed in part by a plate which provides a mounting for two depending pockets each for the reception of an intended article, means whereby one pocket may be removed to afford access to the compartment, a lid pivoted to the plate and forming a closure for one pocliet, there being a finger projected laterally from the lid to overhang the other pocket when the lid is in one position, and when in another position to be removed therefrom, the finger serving when in overhanging relation to the other pocket to retain an article therewithin, and sift-er means. for permitting discharge of loose material from the compartment, sul stantially as described.

4. A vanity case together with a cover therefor, the case having a bottom and side walls, and the cover also having side walls in engagement with those of the case, a plate mounted in the case in spaced relation to its bottom, three pockets depending from the plate into the space therebelow, and a lid slidably mounted on the plate adapted when in one position to form a closure for one pocket, and a partial closure for another, and when in a second position to form a partial closure for the first pocket, and a complete closure for the third pocket, substantially as described.

5. A vanity case having a bottom and provided with a mounting for a plate which extends transversely in spaced relation to the case bottom whereby to provide a compartment for the reception of loose material, a pair of cups depending into the compartment supported by the plate in adjacent relation, and a lid pivoted to the plate between the two cups and adapted for limited sliding movement over the plate, there being a plurality of openings throu 'h the lid and plate adapted when the former is in one position to register with each other, and when in another position to n'iisalign whereby the lid serves as a closure for "the compartment, substantially as described.
