Description

Nov. 10, 1925- BOX CLOSURE Filed Aug. 18, 1924 I I I I INVENTOR ATTORNEYS 1,561,330 A. H. KELLER Patented Nov. 10, 1925.
UNITED stars Amnessanae KELIJEPC, os'y xsamvnts, New JERSEY.
Bea ctosonni Application filed August 18, 1924:
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I}, ARTHUR H. KELLER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Pleasantville, in the county of Atlantic and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and Improved Box Closure, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in boxes, and it pertains more particularly to a box or container for shoe blacking and similar pastes.
It is one of the primary objects of the invention to provide a box which may be readily opened to give access to the contents thereof.
It is a further object of the invention to provide a box in which the cover is flexed to cause a removal thereof relative to the box body.
It is a further object of the invention to provide a box which may be opened without the use of separate tools or instruments.
With the above and other objects in View, reference is bad to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a sectional view of a box con structed in accordance with the present invention;
Fig. 2 is an inverted plan view of the box cover.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, the reference numeral 5 designates the box and 6 designates the side walls thereof. The side walls are formed with a bead 7 which is preferably continuous and projects outwardly of the box to provide a stop for limiting the movement of the cover relative to the box.
The reference numeral 10 designates the box cover, which cover is provided with side walls 11 and projecting finger-pieces 12 which are formed integral therewith. Intermediate the finger-pieces 12 the cover is provided with flanges 13 which are adapted to engage the bead 7 in order to limit the movement of the box cover relative to the box body. Mounted centrally of the cover 10 and projecting inwardly thereof, there is a rigid post 14 of a length such that it engages the bottom wall of the box 6, as designated at 15. This post 14 is rigidly secured to the box cover 10 by having its upper end reduced as at 16 and upset into a head, such as 17 Extending across the cover and. secured thereto by the post 14-,
Serial No. 732,853.
there is a strap 20. and such strap has-depending portions 21 the lower edge 22 of which is adapted to engage the upper edge of the open side of the box 6 when the cover is properly positioned upon the box.
To open the box with the parts in the position shown in Fig. 1, it is only necessary to place the forefinger of each hand beneath the finger-pieces 12 and exert pressure upon the head 17 or upon the approximate center of the cover 10. This will flex the cover 10 and in flexing the strap member 20 will move downwardly in Fig. 1 and its lower ends 22 will force the box from the cover. Aiding in this operation is the post 14, which upon flexing of the cover forces the bottom wall of the box downwardly.
When it is desired to close the box, the cover is placed thereupon in the ordinary manner, and when pressed to position where the fingers 13 engage the bead 7, the cover is flexed in the opposite direction causing the strap member 21 and the post 14- to assume the position shown in Fig. 1.
From the foregoing it is apparent that all of the objects of the present invention have been accomplished, and, further, it should be understood that numerous modifications of structure might readily be resorted to without in the least departing from the scope of the claims.
What is claimed is:
1. In a box closure, a cover for the box, a strap member carried by the cover and adapted to engage the edge of the open side of the box whereby upon flexing of the cover the strap owing to its engagement with the box, forces the box from the cover.
2. A box closure comprising a box, a flexible cover therefor, and means carried by the cover and adapted to engage opposite sides of the box by which to force the box therefrom upon flexing of the cover.
3. A box closure comprising a box, a flexible cover therefor, and means carried by the cover and adapted to force the box therefrom upon flexing of the cover, said means comprising a strap carried by the cover and having its ends normally engaging the box when the cover is in closed relation therewith.
4. A box closure comprising a box, a flexible cover therefor, and means carried by the cover and adapted to force the box therefrom upon flexing of the cover, said means comprising a post carried by the cover and having its free end normally engaging the bottom wall of the box, and portions connected to the cover engageable respectively with side portions of the box.
5. A box closure comprising a box, a flexible cover therefor, finger-pieces projecting from the cover and means carried by the cover adapted to engage the box at several points whereby upon flexing thereof the box i l is forced from the cover.
6. A box closure 'comprising a box, a
flexible cover therefor, a strap carried by the cover and having depending legs adapted to engage the edge of the open side of the box when the cover is in closed posicover to disengagement therefrom upon flex- 20 ing of the cover.
