I'L lt'o the container is filled with solid or semi-solid material, for instance cigarettes 3l, as illustrated in Figs. 2 and 3, but may be eliminated in case of a liquid or powdery product which is readily displaced.

In case the container is used for dry products, it may be desirable to provide an lauxiliary cover 32 over the contents. This may extend over the entire top surface of the contents or, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3, it may coincide as to area with the size of the filling opening, permitting insertion therethru. This cover may be a fibre or vention or sacrificing all of its material advantages, the form hereinbefore described being merely a preferred embodiment thereof.

I claim:

1. A friction plug container, comprising in combination, a container body, a friction ring secured to said body in a joint and having a dependingfriction seat wall defining a pouring and dispensing opening, a friction plug for closing said opening, said plug having an outwardly curved peripheral friction seat wall adapted to paper disc or metal foil or other suitable ima-A terial and may provide a top surface for such printed matter as advertisements or directions for use of the contents.

As seen in Fig. 4 the present invention may be applied to oblong containers or any other practical shape of container and such containers may be used for holding and dispensing a variety of products, the cigarettes Si shown in Figs. 2 and 3 being merely illustrative of the possible Wide use of such an easily opened container.

Fig. 2 shows the friction plug i9 in its correct closing position. Notefthat in such position the stop bead 24 and the rocker beads 25 rest upon the annular ridge I6 and the upper portion of the annular wall section 2l frictionally engages the friction seat wall I1 of the ring I3 and that the manually depressible bead 23 is spaced vertically away from the ridge l5.

rWhen it isdesired to open the container, to expose or remove the contents, pressure exerted against'the edge of top panel 2l at the locality `of the bead 23 (which may be finger pressure) will depress that portion of the plug and raise the opposite portion of the plug, .causing the wall section 2l of the plug to disengage itself from the friction seat Wall Il of the ring, thereby initially loosening the plug as an entirety from its sealing contact with the ring for subsequent easy and complete removal. In other words, a lever or rocking movement of the plug I9 upon the ring I3 ltakes place and is accomplished by the opposed beads 25 of the plug rocking or fulcruming on the ridge Iii of the ring. The curvature of the wall sections 26 and 2 of the plug assist in lclearing the depending wall H of the ring. Fig.

3 shows the relative position of plug and ring after such fulcrumor rocking movement.

In some cases the stop bead 24 may be omitted or may be replaced by a second pressure bead or projection 23, in which case the rocker beads 25 would also function as stop beads limiting the relative telescoping movement between plug and ring. It is conceivable that both stop bead 24 and pressure bead 23 may be omitted in the event that it is not necessary or desirable to limit the inward movement of that portion of the plug upon which pressure is exerted. l

It will be understood of course that while the ring I3 and plug IS have been illustrated and described as being made of sheet metal, either or both of these members may be made of any other suitable materia. For instance, the piug would function in a similar manner if it were made of plastic. Also, of course, the container body, instead of being made of fibre, as illustrated and described might be made of sheet metal. l

It is thought that the invention and many of Yits attendant advantages will be understood from the foregoing description, and it will be apparent that various changes may be made in the'form, co-nstruction and arrangement of the parts without departing from the spirit and scope of the in-' .gated fulcrum projection bearing a'twise against said friction ring when said plug is in horizontal sealingly engage the friction seat Wall of said ring when said plug is disposed flatly thereagainst, said plug also having a pair of horizontally elongated fulcrum projections located at diametrically opposed peripheral points of the plug and having a flat bearing engagement against said ring to maintain the plug in horizontal sealing position, whereby the application of inward pressure upon said plug at a point substantially centrally between said projections rocks the plug on said ring at one end of said elongated fulcrum projections to raise the opposite end of the plug, and release the frictional engagement between plug and ring, the outwardly curved friction seat wall of said plug permitting the described rocking movement of the plug without binding against the ring. A friction plug container, comprising in combination, a container body, a friction ring secured to said body in a joint and having a depending friction seat wall defining a pouring and dispensing opening, a friction plug for closing said opening, said plug having Van outwardly curved peripheral friction seat wall adapted to sealingly engage the friction seat wall of said 'ring when said plug is disposed flatly thereagainst, said plug having a horizontally elongated fulcrum projection bearing flatwise against said ring when the plug is in horizontal sealing position, anda pressure bead in said friction plug spaced horizontally and vertically from said fulcrum bead, whereby application of inward pressure upon said plug Aat said pressure bead the plug is rocked on said ring at one end of said 3 horizontally elongated fulcrum projection to raise the opposite end of the plug and release the frictional engagement between plug and ring, the 'outwardly curved friction seat wall of said plug permitting the described rocking movement of l the plug without `binding against the ring.

4. `A friction plug container, comprising in combination, a container body, a friction ring secured to said body in a joint and having an upstanding substantially horizontal bearing portion and a depending friction seat Wall defining a pouring and dispensing opening, a dish shaped friction plug for closing said opening, said plug having an outwardly curved peripheral friction seat wall adapted to sealingly engage the friction seat wall of said ring, said plug also having a pair of diametrically opposed horizontally elongated fulcium projections in said friction seat wall between its top and bottom edges for bearing atwise against dametrically opposed portions of said ring when said plug is in horizontal sealing position, and a pressure bead in said friction plug spaced horizontally and vertically from said fulcrum bead, whereby the application of inward pressure upon said plug at said pressure bead rocks the plug at diametrically opposed portions of said ring at adjacent ends of said horizontally elongated fulcrum projections to raise the opposite end of the plug and release the frictional engagement between plug and ring, the outwardly curved friction seat wall of said plug permitting the described rocking movement of the plug without binding against the ring.
