c, H. MEYER PIPE COVER File d May 29, 1922 f atented June 9, 1925.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
PIPE COVER.
Application filed May 29, 1922. Serial No; 564,425.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GHARLns H. Mnrnn,
a citizen of the United States, residing at San Francisco, in the county of San F rancisco and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Pipe Covers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a pipe cover and has particular reference to a device adapted to be positioned over the bowl of a pipe for the purpose of rendering the said pipe sanitary.
A further object of this invention is to provide a cover in the form of a sleeve made of elastic or a yielding material which is economical to manufacture and highly ellicient in use.
Other objects and advantages will be ap parent during the course of the following description.
In the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, and in which like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same,
Fig. 1 is a plan View of the device in a folded or collapsed position,
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the device in an unfolded position, and
Fig. 3 is a side elevation of a pipe showing the application of my invention thereto.
Great annoyance has been experienced in the use of pipes due to the fact thatthey constantly cause the clothes or pockets of the user to become foul by virtue of the burnt tobacco remaining in the pipe which causes a crust to accumulate therein.
To overcome this foregoing objection I have devised my improved cover which is adapted to snugly engage the bowl of the pipe and thus prevent the foul odor from escaplng.
In the accompanying drawings wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown a preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 5 designates a cap preferably made of asbestos and rubber although other material can be readily employed. To this cap I propose to secure by vulcanizing or other adhesive means, one extremity of a sleeve 6. It will be observed that this sleeve terminates at its opposite extremity in an annular bead 7, which is provided for easily initiating and facilitating the rolling of the sleeve from its unfolded position shown in Figure 2 to the collapsed or folded position disclosed in Figure 1 and vice versa.
In practice, the cap 5 is positioned on the open end of the bowl and the sleeve is then unfolded until it assumes the positionon the bowl shown to advantage in Figure 3. When the cover is to be disengaged from the pipe bowl the user grasps in his fingers the bead 7 and rolls the same until the cover assumes the configuration disclosed in Figure 1 and the cover in a collapsed form is then transferred to the pocket of the smoker, where it will occupy but a minimum amount of space.
It is to be understood that the form of my invention herewith shown and described is to be taken as a preferred example of the same, and that various changes in the shape, size and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claim.
Having thus described my invention, I claim A pipe covering adapted to be positioned on the bowl of a pipe, said cover being made of rubberized, foldable material and embodying in its construction a cap, a sleeve secured at one extremity to said cap and terminating at its opposite extremity in a bead.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
CHARLES H. MEYER.
