PATENT ()FFICE.
FRANK GRANT, OF WESTFIELD, MASSACHUSETTS.
SHAVING-SOAP-S'IICK HOLDER.
Application filed March 22, 1922. Serial No. 545,848.
T 0 all 1072.0771- z't may concern:
Be it known that FRANK GRANT, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at lVestfield, in the county of Hampden and State of ll Iassachusetts, has invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shaving-Soapfitick Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in shaving stick holders and its leading object is to provide a simple holder which will exert a positive clutching action on the shaving stick and permit of easy manual feeding.
With the above and other objects in view the invention comprises certain new and useful constructions, combinations and arrangements of parts, clearly described in the following specification and fully illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Fig. 1 is a view partly in side elevation and partly in longitudinal section, showing one form of my improved soap stick holder.
Fig. 2 is a top plan View thereof.
3 is a side elevation, partly in longitudinal section, of a modified form of the invention.
Fig. 4 is a top plan view thereof.
' Referring to the accompanying drawings illustrating the practical embodiment of my invention 5 designates a tubular holder, the body of which is shown to be formed of yielding rubber and provided with a from a point slightly spaced from its upper end to the lower end thereof. This body is formed with two or more longitudinal ribs 6 and 7, which terminate near the upper end of the body, and in. which the reinforcing metal rods 6 and '7 are embedded, so as to stiffen the body and permit of its more easy manipulation by the hand of the user.
The upper end portion of the tubular body is formed with a plurality of internal circular ribs 8, which are spaced apart from each other to provide recesses 9, therebetween, and these ribs and recesses are preferably rounded to present surfacesnot adapted to form positive abutments. The entire portion of the body 5 carrying said ribs is elastic so that it will readily expand. and exert a clutch g a ti n on the p- The stick of soap 10 is formed with a series of circular ribs 10 which are spaced apart from each other to provide recesses 10 therebetween. The ribs 10 are designed to fit into the recesses 9 and the recesses 10 are designed to receive the ribs 8 of the holder. In the position shown in Fig. 1 the soap stick is held against relative movement. By applying hand pressure on the lower end of the soap stick the same may be shifted in the holder, the ribs of the soap stick passing the ribs of the body and expanding said portion of the body on which the ribs are formed.
In Figs. 3 and 4 I show a modified form of the invention, wherein a metal holder 11 is employed. This holder is formed with an annular pocket or recess 1.1 in. its wall, which is located near the upper end there of. The interior face of the wall is shown to be smooth, the wall being enlarged to provide the recess or pocket 11.
In the recess or pocket 11 a clutch ring 12 is disposed, which is preferably formed of elastic, yielding rubber and shaped to provide one or more ribs 12 and one or more recesses 12 therebetween, designed similarly to the ribs and recesses of the body 5. The thickness of the ring 12 is slightly less than the depth of the recess or pocket 11, so as to permit the ring to expand in the recessor pocket when the soap stick 13 is shifted longitudinally in the holder 11. This soap stick is provided with a series of circular ribs 13 and recesses 13 therebetween, similar to the stick 10.
In either case the clutching ribs provide a seal for limiting the downfiow of water into the holder and positively hold the soap stick against relative longitudinal move ment in the holder, in such manner that the soap stick may be readily shifted to present a fresh terminal portion to the user.
Having described my invention I claim:-
A. shaving stick holder provided with an expandible portion having an internal rib and a shaving stick having a series of 1011- gitudinally spaced recesses into which the rib may successively fit.
Signed by me at Springfield, Mass.
F RAN K GRANT.
