SOAP-STICK HOLDER.
Application filed March 18, 1922. Serial No. 544,840.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that FRANK GRANT, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Westfield, in the county of Hampden and State of Massachusetts, has invented certain new and useful Improvements in Soap- Stick Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in soap stick holders and its leading object is to provide an inexpensive holder for soap sticks, such as shaving soap sticks and also for other like articles which is equipped with means for positively gripping the soap stick and which can be operated by a rotary movement by the fingers of one hand to release the soap stick when it is desired to propel the same in or out of the container.
lVith the above and other objects in view this invention relates to improvements, combinations and arrangements of parts, clearly described in the following specification and fully illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure 1 is a side elevation.
Figure 2 is a transverse sectional view taken on line 22 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a detail view of a container having the clutch spring formed thereon.
Figure 4 is an enlarged detail sectional View showing one method of anchoring the clutch spring to the container tube.
Referring to the accompanying drawings 5 designates a container which may be composed of paper, metal, or other material and which is provided with open ends so that a soap stick 6 contained therein may be propelled in or out of the tube by the application of'pressure on either end of the soap stick. 1
In order to retain the soap stick in the tube against longitudinal movement or slippage I employ clutching means which is shown to consistof a spring 7 the loose end of which is provided with a U shaped terminal clutch 8 and the other end of which is secured to the wall of the tube 5. The spring 7 is embraced by a sleeve 9 which is arranged to rotate on the tube 5 and which is provided with a clearance in the form of a recess or opening 10, or the like, into or through which the clutching terminal 8 may spring so as to withdraw the point 8 from engagement with the soap stick. The sleeve bead or beads 11 and 12 which engage sim- 9 is interlocked to the tube 5 by means of a ilar beads formed on the tube, and which prevent relative longitudinal movement between the sleeve and the tube and yet permit of free rotary movement. The wall of the tube is knurled or otherwise roughened and the sleeve may be knurled or roughened to permit of easy manipulation by the user.
In Figure 3 I show a modified view of the container consisting of a tube 15 having the clutch spring 16 stamped therefrom and provided with an inset terminal 16.
In Fig. 4 the springs 23 and 24 are formed by cutting slits in the tube 25. These springs are provided with offset portions located medially of their ends, which are engaged by the ofiset portions 21 and 22 of the tube 20.
My invention provides a simple dispensing container by means of which soap sticks may be readily dispensed and the contained soap sticks held in any desired position against slippage. My holder permits the use of all of the soap stick but a very narrow remnant which will be held in position for a fresh stick to be added in adhesive engagement therewith, thus permitting the consumption of the entire stick.
Having described my invention I claim: I
1. A soap stick holder consisting of a tube, a clutch spring secured by one end in said holder and having a U shaped terminal, said tube having an opening through'which said terminal is adapted to move, and a sleeve mounted to rotate on said tube and provided with an offset wall portion providing a pocket in which said U shaped terminal can project and arranged to be rotated relative to the tube so as to force said terminal into a clutching engagement with a soap stick inclosed by the tube.
2. An open ended soap stick holder comprising a soap stick holding tube having a slot in its wall in which an outwardly expandingand inwardly clutching spring works, said spring having an outset portion and an inset terminal portion, and a sleeve' FRANK GRANT.
