ii; ST TES L'IAR'IINIUS DYSTHE; OF IVIINNEAPOLIS, MINNESGTA.
CHECK s'rnn no nnnn.
Application filed January 18, 1924. Serial No. 686,999.
T of whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MAR'rrNiUs DYSTHE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Minneapolis. in the county of Hennepin and Eitate of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Check Stub Holders; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention such as will onable others skilled in the art to which it ap 'iertains to make and use the same.
M invention has for its object to provide eniely sin'iple inexpensive and highly lit device for holding the stubs of chec books out of the way so as to expose stub or stubs of a check or checks to be made out, and also for holding any check or checks which may have been made out but not detached from their stubs.
To the above one, the invention consists of the novel devices and combinations of devices hereinafter described and defined in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings which illustrate the invention, like characters indicate like parts throughout the several views.
Referring to the drawings:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a partly open check book having the improved stub holder attached to one of the covers thereof and positioned to hold the stubs when the check book is partly open Fig. 2 is a fragmentary view corresponding to Fig. 1 with the exception that the check book is completely open;
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the shiftable anchor and attached end portion of the ribbon;
Fig. 4 is a detail view principally in section taken on the line H of Fig. 2, on an enlarged scale; and
Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the permanent anchor.
The numeral 6 indicates the cover of a check book, within which is bound stubs 7 having attached checks 8 which may be separated therefrom, and from each other on the perforated lines 9. As shown, there are three checks to the page, but, of course, the holder will work equally as well whether there is one or more checks to the page.
The improved check stub holder comprises a permanent anchor 10, a shiftable anchor 11 and a ribbon 12 connecting said shiftable anchor to the permanent anchor. The permanent anchor feet 1-i which rest on the inside of the front cover 6 and support said anchor with clearance thereunder to receire the ribbon 12. This permanent anchor 10 is detachably secured to the cover 6 near its free end portion by split fasteners 15, but in some instances it might be desirable to permanently secure the same thereto by rivets.
A longitudinal slot 16 is formed in the permanent anchor 10 to receive the ribbon 12. This ribbon 12 is secured to the permanent anchor 10 with freedom for longitudinal sliding adjustment to vary the operative length thereof and is laced under and over said anchor and through the slot 16, as best shown in Fig. The shiftable' anchor 11 is in the form of a flat plate having at one edge a long slot 17 through which the respective end of the ribbon 12 is looped and secured by stitches. This shiftable anchor 11 is adapted to be inserted between the bound edges of the stubs 7, and at which time the front cover (Sis held only partly open to put slack in the ribbon 12, as shown in Fig. 1. 7
When the front cover 6 is completely open the ribbon 12 is drawn taut and thereby securely holds the stubs 7 and attached checks 8, which may be. between the shiftable anchor 11 and the front cover 6. It will be noted tiat the length of the-ribbon12 is such that the checks 8 may be folded there under between the attached stubs and the permanent anchor 10. To vary theoperative length of the ribbon 12 it is only necessary to turn said ribbon outward in respect to the front cover 6, and draw either end thereof to slide the ribbon 12 on the permanent anchor 10.
From the above description and by reference to the drawings it will be noted that the stubs and checks will be securely held onthe front cover 6 so thatthey are entirely out of the way, thus leaving the checks and stubs to be filled out fully exposed. The shiftable anchor 11 may be very quickly and easily removed from between the bound edges of the stubs and another leaf of stubs turned under the ribbon together with any checks which may be attached thereto, and said anchor again inserted between the bound edges of the stubs.
The improved check stub holders may be furnished with each check book or they may be sold separately and attached to a check has at its ends outturned book cover by the purchaser. The ribbon12 or shiftable anchor 11, or both, may be used for advertising purposes.
The term check book is herein used in a broad sense to cover various different kinds of books, such as stock books and the like.
What I claim is:
1. A check stub holder comprising a permanentianchor attachable to the cover of a check book, a shiftable anchor adapted to 1561 inserted between check stubs at their bound edges, and a ribbon connecting theshiftable. anchor to the permanent anchor.
2. A-check stub holder comprising a permanent anchor attachable to the cover of a check book,.a shiftable anchor adapted to be inserted between oheck'stubs at their boundmanent anchor attachable to the cover of a check book, a shiftable anchor adapted to be inserted between check stubs at their bound edges, and a ribbon connecting the shiftable' anchor to the permanent anchor, said shiftable anchor being in: the form of a'flat plate.
l. A check stub holder comprising permanent anchor attachable to the cover of a check book, a shiitable anchor adapted to be inserted between check stubs at their bound edges, and a ribbon connecting the shilftable anchor to the permanent anchor, said ribbon being of such length as to hold thereunder between the two anchors, check stubs and attached checks.
5. A check stubholder comprising a permanentanchor attachable to the cover of a check book, a shittable anchor adapted to be inserted between check stubs at their bound edges, and a ribbon connecting the shiitable anchor to the permanent anchor, said per manent anchor having a transverse slot, said ribbon being laced around the permanent anchor and through the slot therein to adj ustably connect said ribbon thereto.
6. The structure defined in claim 1, in which the permanent anchor may be detachably secured to the cover of a check book.
In testimony whereof I afliX my signa ture;
MARTIYNIUS DYSTHE.
