Description

Se t. 24, 1929. A. E. RICHARDSON BOOK HOLDER Filed Feb. 21. 1928 Patented Sept. 24, 1929.
UNITED STATES AMANDA E. RICHARDSON, OF BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS IBOOKHOLDER Application filed February 21, 1928.
This invention relates to book holders and particularly to a holder adapted to contain a plurality of books, one of which may be a reference book, index or glossary, the object 5 of the invention being to provide a device in which two books may be held open with a page of each exposed.
This object is attained by means of the in strumentalities illustrated in the accompany- ]o ing drawings.
For the purpose of illustrating the invention, one preferred form thereof is illus trated in the drawings, this form having been found to give satisfactory and. reliable re- 15 sults, although it is to be understood that the various instrumentalities of which the invention consists can be variously arranged and organized, and the invention is not limited to the precise arrangement and organization of these instrumentalities as herein shown and described except as required by the scope of the appended claims.
Of the drawings:
Figure 1 represents a plan of a book hold- 5T5 er embodying the principles of the present invention.
Figure 2 represents a section of same on line 2, 2, on Fig. 1.
Figure 8 represents a plan of the same with 30 a plurality of books held therein.
Figure 4 represents an elevation of the same with two of the books therein open, and
Figure 5 represents an elevation of the same with the books enclosed in said holder.

material, these strips being secured to the longer edges of said sheet only at the opposite ends of the strips.
As shown in the drawing, the securing means are the rows of stitches 15.
Preferably the outer longer edge of each strip 1 1 registers with a shorter edge of said sheet 10.
Between the opposed rows of stitches 15 there is suflicient slack in the strips 14 to permit the insertion of one or more book covers between the sheet 10 and strip 1 1, these covers being insertable either from the inner edge of the strip or the outer edge thereof as may be required.
To the outer face of one side section 13 is secured a spring button fastener 16 and to the outer face of the other side section 13 is secured a broad strap 17 having at its outer end a socket 18 to receive the button 16.
The holder is designed particularly for a special purpose and that is to hold two main books and a study book in such manner that the pages of either main book may be exposed without covering the page being referred to in said study book. v
The sheet 10 is preferably formed of flexible material such as leather, but the sections 12, 13, may be made of stiff material suitably joined together without affecting the invention.
While as before stated the holder is particularly adapted to be used for a particular purpose, it is self-evident that it may be utilized for many other purposes with books of a different character held thereon.
It is believed that the operation and many advantages of the invention will be understood readily without further description.
Havin thus described my invention, I claim:
1. A book holder consisting of an elongated sheet of flexible material having a pair of separated creases extending transversely thereof midway its length and provided on its inner face near a shorter edge thereof with a broad strip of material parallel to said creases and secured to said sheet only at the opposite ends of said strip.
2. A book holder consisting of an elongated sheet of flexible material having a pair of separated creases extending transversely thereof midway its length and provided on its inner face near each shorter edge thereof with a broad strip of material parallel to said creases and secured to said sheet only at the opposite ends of said strip and with its outer longer edge registering With one shorter edge of the sheet.
Signed by me at 746 Old South Bldg, Boston Mass, this 8th day of February, 1928.
AMANDA E. RICHARDSON.
