Be it known that I, FLoiinN'r Piniir u Sin, a citizen of Belgium, and a resident of South Charleston, in the county of Kanawha and State of W est Virginia, liav; invented a. new and Improved Towel Hanger, oi which the following is a description.

My invention relates to a towel hanger and particularly to a hanger comprising spring-pressed jaws to grip the towel, said towel adapted to be separated by the pres sure of the linger in the placing of the towel between the aws.

The general object of my invention is to provide a towel hanger of the indicated class improved in various particulars with a view to promote strength with simplicity and to provide a construction in which the parts may be produced cheaply and assembled with facility.

A more specific object of the invention is to provide a construction permitting the ready dismounting of the jaws and the disassembling of the device when required for repair or otherwise.

The manner and means whereby the above and other objects are attained will clearly appear as the description proceeds.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specitication, it being understood that the draw ings are merely illustrative of examples of the invention.

The upper ends so of the j aws 21 are disposed atright or approximately to to the bodies of the jaws and said jaws are held by the springs 16 in convergent relation. The wings 12 term supports on which the aws 21 may freely rock, The arrangement described causes the s to come iogether at the medial line oi the hanger.

lVith the described construction the towel is taken hold of at one corner between the thumb and second finger leaving the corner projecting above the top of the forefinger. The forefinger is employed to force the towel down with a sudden movement between the convergent jaws 21, the pressure serving to spread said jaws against the tension of sprin s 16. The downward pressure by the forefinger is continued until the finger passes through the jaws and is arrested by stop member 11, the corner portion of the towel which extends above the forefinger remaining between the jaws to be gripped thereby when the jaws close in response to the reaction oi springs 16. thereby leaving the towel suspended by its corner as indicated in Figures 1 and 2.

To remove the jaws 21 when occasion arises to do so, it is only necessary to press one jaw toward the adjacent wing 12 a sufficient distance to permit the other jaw 21 to be swung upwardly and lifted from the supporting wing 12.

In Figures 4 and 5 a single clamp jaw is employed in connection with a fixed coacting element. The single aw 121 has an angular terminal 120 acted upon by a spring 116 as in the first-described construction. The back plate 210 has a wing 212 on which the jaw 121 may rock and it has a fixed wing 221 toward which the jaw 121 is pressed. by the spring 116. Since the single jaw 121 is oblique to the fixed wing 221 I preferably provide on said wing 221 an upper terminal 26 directed upwardly and laterally outwill be seen that the several constructions have in common a clamp jaw and an element coacting withsaid jawto clamp the towel; the coacting element in Figures 1 and 2 is the second movable jaw whereas in Figures 4 and 6 the element coacting with the jaw is the Wing 221 or 421.

I wouldstate in conclusion that while the illustrated examples constitute practical embodiments of my invention, I do not limit myself strictly to the exact details herein illustrated, since, manifestly, the same can be considerably varied without departure from the spirit of the invention as defined in the appended claims.

Having thus described my invention, 1. claim:

1. As a new article of manufacture, a towel hanger comprising a supporting element, a spring-pressed clamp jaw, said element having a member on the upper edge of which'said jaw freely rests and is rockably supported, and an element coacting with said jaw and between which and the jaw the towel is adapted to be clamped.

2. As a new article of manufacture, a towel hanger comprising a back plate, a wing rigid thereon, a jaw seated and resting. on the top edge of said wing and free to rock thereon, and an element l between which and the said jaw the towel is adapted to be clamped.

3. As anew article of manufacture, a
