To all whom it may concern? Be it known that Ernwooo Horn, a citizen of the United Eitates, residingat Philadelphia, in the countyef Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Arti- 'cle Holders, of which the following is a spec ification reference bein had to the accoma i c panying drawings. v l
This inventlon relates to holding devices,
and has for its objectto provide a holder capable of supportinga number of articles within convenient reachbftheuserQ l It is another object of the invention to I provide a holder ofthis character capable of use as an advertisingmedlum and arranged to support articles such as a telephone direc- I tory or memorandum book. l It is a 'i'urther object of the inventionto providea holder of this character capable of being formed from a blank of'material,
said holder not only including means for pp g an article, but also means for supporting the holder.
With these and other objects in viewjthe Figure 1 1s a perspective View of an article holder constructed in accordance with an embodiment of the invention; a
Figure 2 is. a side elevation showing the device applied to a wall;
Figure 3 is a rear elevation of the structure shown in Figure 1;
Figure 4 is a plan view of the blank be- :tore the holder is assembled; v
Figure 5 is a detailed view of one form of fastening means; and Figure 6 is a detailed view of another-form of fastening means.
Referring to the drawings, 5 designates a blank of material including a relatively large central portionfi. One end portion oi:
the blank is reduced iSO P IOVIClG an arm 7 having an opening 8 inthe end portion thereof. The opposite end portion of the blank is also reduced to provide an arm 9 having an opening 10 in. the end portion thereof. The arm 9 is shorter than the arni7. This is caused by enlarging the portion 11; of the blank between the central. portion 6 and the arm 9. g
The purpose of the enlarged portion is cient metal isleft toxproperly reinforce or to permit a supportingmarin 12 toIbe struck therefrom, the supporting arm 12 having relatively large opening- 13 After the arm .12 hasbeen struck from the portion 11', sufli-I connect the arm 9 to the central portion 6 of the blank. When the blank has been stamped above described, the same is bent on the line aa so as tolposition theiarms 7 and 9 saidarms in parallel relation.
in spaced relatiom'with the extremities of Y It will be noted that by bending the arms i on the line aea that the portion from said lineztothe extremity of thearm 7 islongerx than the portion of the blank from the line a--az to the extremity of the arm 9. This permits the arm 9 which includes thefportion 11, with the exception ofthe arm 12, to be disposed substantiallyffiat, so as to. engagea wall or like support. Theremaining por tion, that is, the central portion 6 and the.
may be printed or applied I In assembling the holder,: the arm 12 is exi f v 'tendedsubstantiallv upwardly at an inclination to the arm 9, the opening 13 of the arm I I; 12 being adapted to engage ahook A or like.
supporting means carried by the wall. By
bending the material in the manner describe ed, the arms 7 and 8 will naturally be dis-.
posed in divergent relation to each other, in view of the resiliency of the blank. In
ing meansisprovided, said means extending through the reglstering openlngs 8 and 10,
of, as shown in Figure 2. It may also be a threadedsleeve 17 having a screw 18 engaged therewith, the end portion 190]? the order to draw the arms to each other, fastenso as to bridge the space between said arms 7 and d aw said arms toward each other.
This fastening means may be in theform of a bolt 15 having a nut 16 on one end there-,
screw being, enlarged, or corresponding in 1 diameter to the diameter ofthe' sleeve 17, as
shown in Figure 5. The. fastening means may also be in the form of a threaded sleeve 20 having a head 21, said sleeve being relatively long and adapted to receive the shank of a screw 22, shown in Figure 6.. Thls holder is an excellent devlce asan advertising medium, asthe centralporti'on 6 t is not only disposed at an inclination so as to he easil observed by anyonewvhen the device is hi'ing upon a wall 'h'ut is relatively broad so that anyrquantity of advertising matter may he'applied to said portion.
As shown in Figure 3, the central portion 6' renders the oortionll end the oaenin D caused the arm 12 invisible.
V As the formation of the portion 11 at the junction of said portion with the arm 9 coincides With the central portion "6 at the junction of. said portion with the arm 7 the deviee'is rendered neat in appearance.
this a novel: suaportinsz a'rm is rovided vithout-requiring using; the central or large portion 6 of theihlank intended for advertising matter. The fastening means is 1inftended to support a telephone directory,
directory, catelog or like devices by passing the fastening ineans through "the usual opening found n siichlbooks, .so as to position the hook ithin convenient reach ot the operatgnt. By the gradual curvature of the arms and the central portion 6 a .to extendv the, hook upwardly and partially I relatively large compartment is formed hetween the arms .7 and?) so that it is. possible inwardly of the frame, to permit the user'to turn thegpa-ges of the .dir'ect,ory Without removing theholder from thehookor from the wslL It Will, also be founderrceedingly usefulas a 'bill holder, cardholder, or ,for
rnemorandnm sheets fastened.
may be stamped in large numbers from a small quantity ott sheet metal, and in View In addition to 1 From the foregoing it will he 3 readily seen that this invention provides a novel form oi holder which is capable of holding any hook iota thickness. corresponding to the length of the fastening; means, regardless of the" weight of the book, as there are no pivots or likeseparate parts to come un- In addition to this, the devices of the blank tor nation of the holder it is an easy matter to apply any form of advertisling matter to the central portion 6 of the holder het'orethe' holder is 'assemhled.
of these features are possessedhy a device having unlimited utilityj lVhat is claimed is: I I As an article of menulfactiire an -article holder. consisting of a single sheet of metal cut to provide a relatively large central por- All tion and relativelynarrow arms. at its ends,
said arms being disposed substanti'allyin parallel reletionlto each other means connecting the ends of saidarms to each other,"
the centrslportion of said sheet having an integral supportlng tabc'ut out of themter al and strucknp, theta-h having an opening.
In testimony whereofl hereunto affix my signature. v
