Description
Oct. 22, 1929. c. s. BRIGGS DEVICE FOR PRESSING TROUSERS Filed June 15, 1927 patented Oct. 22 1929 CLYDE S. BRIGGS, OF FLOSSMOOR, ILLINOIS DEVICE FOR PRESSI'NG TROUSERS Application filed June 15,
This invention relates to devices for pressing trousers and the like.
An object of the invention is to provide a small compact device of this character which will serve to receive trousers and press a portion of them, particularly the knees, the device serving at the same time as a rack or holder for the trousers.
This and other objects as will hereinafter appear, are accomplished by this invention which is fully described in the following specification and shown in the accompanying drawings, in which 2 Figure 1 is a perspective phantom View of the device;
Fig. 2 is a vertical section on the line 2 of Fig. 1;
iii g. 3 is a horizontal section on the line 3 of Fig. 1; and
Fig. t is a perspective view of the device with pair of trousers secure-d therein.
'ihe embodiment shown comprises front and back sheet metal members A and B reectively having 2 flat substantially rectangpeitions 10 and 11 which serve as the slates between which the trousers are held.
in arm 2 extends from one side of the plate 11 a1. ing in a rolled portion 13. A pin 14: extends through this rolled portion 13 and is held by u )wardly struck cars 15 on the member A.
The springdike arm 12 serves to hold the plates A and i3 iirmly in contact when there is nothing between them so that upon insertion of trousers or the like, the latter will be firn'ily pressed between the plates.
The pin 1 ialso serves to firmly hold the members togethe' so that there is no danger of them becoming accidently separated.
The upper portion of the plate A is provided with an outi'rardly and downwardly curved portion 16 which serves as a ledge over which the trousers C are folded as shown in Fig. 1-. The member A is also provided with a flared lip 17 which assists in in troducing the trousers into the device.
The device may be suspended by means of hoe-its 18 or it may be secured to a door or other vertical surface by means of screws (not shown) passing through the perforated bent back preferably terminat- 1927. Serial No. 198,977.
This device may be permanentlysecured to a vertical partition or the' like and used to press trousers which-are inserted through the right-handv side and under the lip 17, the knees of the trousers being held between the plates 10 and 11 with the top of the trousers hanging downwardly while the bottoms of the trousers are carried up and over the curved portion 16. If desired, the device may be carried in a traveling bag or suit-case and used over night to preserve the crease in a pair of trousers.
Thus it will be seen that a very simple and convenient form of trousers pressing device has been provided and one which is simple and economical to manufacture.
While I have shown and described but a single embodiment of this invention, it is to be understood that it is capable of many modifications. Changes therefore in the construction and arrangement may be made which do not depart from the spirit and scope of the inventlon as disclosed in the appended claims. I
I claim:
1. A device for pressing trousers and the like comprising two sheet metal members having fiat portions adapted to overlie each other the upper edge of one member being curved to serve as a support for the overhanging end of a pair of trousers held between said members, one of said members having an eiIteny s1on serving as a spring for forcing said members toward each other.
2. A device for pressing trousers and the like comprising front and back sheet metal members having fiat substantially rectangular portions adapted to overlie each other, the upper edge of the front member being curved away from the back member to serve as a support for the upper end of the trousers held between said members, and an integral arm extending from said back member and pressing upon said front member.
3. A device for pressing trousers and the like comprising front and back sheet metal members having flat substantially rectangular portions adapted to overlie each other, the upper edge of the front member being curved away from the back member to serve as a support for the upper end of the trousers held between said members, and an integral arm extending from the side of said back member and pressing upon said front member.
4. A device for pressing'trousers and the like comprising front and back sheet metal members having flat substantially rectangular portions adapted to overlie each other, the upper edge of the front member being curved away from the back member to serve as a support for the upper end of the trousers held between said members, an integral arm eX- tending from the side of said back member and pressing upon said front member, and an outwardly flaring lip on the side of said front member opposite to that from which the arm projects.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand this 10th day of June, 1927.
CLYDE S. BRIGGS.
