The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in supports or holders particularly for garden hose and has for its primary object to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a
device of this character embodying novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts through the medium of which one end of a garden hose may be clamped to and supported on the upper side wall of a receptaclewhile the hose is discharging into and filling the receptacle.
Other objects of the invention are to provide a support of the aforementioned character which will be comparatively simple in construction, strong, durable, highly efficient and reliable in use, compact, light in weight, and which may be manufactured at low cost.
All of the foregoing and still further objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent from a study of the following specification, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing wherein like characters of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, and wherein:
Figure l is a side elevational view of my invention.
Figure 2 is a top plan view of the invention.
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken substantially on the line 33 of Fig. 1.
Figure 4 is a side elevational view of another form of resilient jaw.
Figure 5 is a top plan view of the modified form of resilient jaw.
Referring now to the drawing in detail it will be seen that the reference numeral 5 designates generally a length of wire rod bent intermediate its ends to form a substantially V -shaped jaw 6.
Each of the side members I of the V-shaped jaw 5 has formed therein a curved portion 8 to permit the V-shaped jaw 6 to conform to the side wall structure 9 of a washtub or other receptacle II). A stop 1' is mounted between and connected. to the side members I. The upper end portions of the side members I are bent substantially at ri angles to form extensions II which terminate in spaced parallel curved arms I2.
Spaced apart and mounted on the curved arms [2 is a pair of resilient clamps i3 and I4 each o which is formed from a strip of spring steel or other suitable material. The end portions of th resilient clamps l3 and i 4 are curved and flare outwardly as shown at [5 and IS in order that the hose i! may be easily and quickly inserted in the clamps l3 and M or removed therefrom. Intermediate the ends of the clamps l3 and M and spaced from each other, recesses I8 and I9 are formed to receive the arms l2 which support the clamps l3 and I4.
A length of resilient rod is bentintermediate its ends to form a U-shaped jaw 20. The side members 20' of the U-shaped jaw 20 terminate in coils 2i. Arms 22 extend from the coils 2| and are securely fastened to the curved arms l2 by welding or other suitable means.
A strip of metal or other suitable material bent to form a substantially U-shaped member 23 one arm 24 of which is substantially straight and is fastened to the U-shaped jaw 20 by welding or other suitable means. The other arm of the U- shaped member is curved to form a finger grip 25.
Figures 4 and 5 show a modified form of the finger grip. In accordance with this construction a length of resilient rod or wire is bent intermediate its ends to form a curved finger grip 26. The wire is further bent to form the jaw 21 and members 28 which terminate in coils 29 which have arms 38 extending therefrom for fastening the jaw 21 and finger grip 26 to the curved arms 12.
The operation of the device is manifest but may be briefly described as follows: d
When filling a washtub or other receptacle one end portion of a hose I! is placed in the clamps. l3 and M. The device is then held in the hand with the fore finger engaged with the finger grip 25. When a pull is exerted on the finger grip 25 the resilient jaw 20 is swung away from the fixed jaw 6 thus permitting the device to be placed over the edge of a washtub or other receptacle. After the device is in place the finger grip 25 is released and the coil springs 2| will force the jaws 20 and 6 together to grip the receptacle and hold the device in place while the receptacle is filling. The stop I is provided for the resilient jaw 20 to' rest against when the device is not clamped to a receptacle, to prevent the resilient jaw 20 from passing through the V-shaped jaw 6, and out of reach of the fore finger when the device is held in the hand to be clamped to a receptacle.
Although I have shown and described herein a preferred embodiment of my invention, it isto be definitely understood that I do not desire tolimit the application of the invention thereto, and any change or changes may be made in the materials and in the structure and arrangement of the parts, within the spirit of the invention as claimed.
What is claimed is:
A hose holder comprising a wirerod bent intermediate its ends to form a substantially V-shaped jaw, spaced parallel curved arms extending from the top end portion of said V-shaped jaw, a substantially annular hose clamping member having 55 to provide a pair of coil springs for normally forcing said movable jaw toward said V-shaped jaw, a pair of shanks extending from said coil springs for securing said springs and movable jaw to said spaced parallel arms, and a finger grip extending from said movable jaw for actuating the same when the device is to be attached to a support.
