To all whom it may concern:
Be, it knownthat ,I,,,FLonnN:r Prrrmrrn,
S12, a citizen of 'Belgium anda resident of South 1 Charleston, in the county. of Kanawha and StateQof WstVirginia, have'inr vented a newand ImprovedRap'id Towel, Hanger, of which the,:following is; a de-; scription.
My invention relates. to a. towelwhanger and more particularly isintended for im-; provement on a towel hanger forming the subject matter of my PatentiNo. 1,437,546, patented Dec.- 5,1922. V a I The general object of the present: inven.-. tion is to provide; a towel .hangervimproved in various :particulars: witlravievv'- to simplify the construction and promotelstrength;
as well as to promote PIGClSlOIITI IIP thefmode offunctioning: ofthef device- Reference is to be had to: the; accompanying drawings forming 1a part of this specification, it being understood that the draw-: ings are merely illustrative of practical examples of the invention;
Figure lis a-faceview of al-towel hanger. embodying my present invention;- 7
Figure 2*is a transverse Vertical section: taken in thejmedial plane-of the hanger; Figure 3is a plan view; f Figure 4 is a face view 'ot my toweli hanger illustrating clamping means of somewhat different shape- 'f'rom -that shown in Figuresl to 3;
Figure 5 is a face view illustrating a further change in the shape of the clamping means.
In carrying out my invention in practice a back 10 is provided which in the illus-' trated example is in the form of a plate having holes to receive screws 11 or equivalent fasteners one of said holes being in a depending extension 12 of the back plate, the lower end 13 of which extension is directed forwardly and preferably upwardly on curved lines. The screws 11 serve to secure the hanger vertically on a wall or other support, a portion of which is indicated conventionally at B.
On the face of the back plate 10 I arrange a clamp designated generally by the numeral 14 formed of a single piece of resilient wire of proper gage or strength. The clamp 14 is made to embody a pair of jawsr15 between which a towel A maybe held. In the form shown in Figures 1 to 3 the clamp 14 is formed with a spring coil 16 from which the material of the clamp extends in opposite directions and isformed into semi-circular portions 16 forming part of theijaw's'15, thelowerterminals OI the semicircular portions 17 being directed laterally inward toward each other from which terminalsthe material is carried outwardly to form, parallel. member's 18 and from the outer ends of the members 18 the material is directed upwardly and laterally outward on oblique-.1 lines vin the form of members I 19,.the terminals 20 of which are directed outwardly at, a more pronounced angle or flare; -'The1 forwardly extending members 18 positionzthe face members 19 offset from the iront ofxthe back plate, l0.-
Thus, the -semi-circularportions 17, forwardly directed members 18, andwoblique members;19fiwith their terminals 20 constitutelthe jaws 1'5. integral with each other Suitable means is. provided tovhold the clampi 14.to the back plate 10. In the forms showninnFiguresil to-'3 and those inFigures 4 and 5 and hereinafterreferred' to, the; to'pfportion of the clamp 14 is secured byaa-curved'tongue orclip 21 struck up from thetmateirial: of the plate 10 1 and bent oventheitop of the clamp, which top as shownliin Figures 11to 3 is formed b-ythe 0011 161 In. addition to: the clip 21 retains ingme'mbers22.are struck'iup from the plate 10 and bentinto hooked Lformingfront of the curved portions 17 of jaws 15, the free ends beingparallel or approximately parallel with said plate 10. The clip 21 positively secures the clamp 14 against displacement while the retaining members 22 constrain the jaws 15 to flex toward or from each other in a plane parallel with the plane of the plate 10.
In the form shown in Figures 1 to 3 I have illustrated a tongue 23 integral with the plate 10 by being struck up from the latter, the lower edge of said tongue 23 curving approximately to conform to the curved portions -17 of the jaws 15 and lying near to the ends of the jaws. With the described arrangement the towel is taken hold of at one corner, conveniently between the thumb and second finger, leaving the i and 214 are of resilient wire so that the jaws are spring jaws.
The downward pressure of the forefinger is continued until thefinger passes through the jaw and is arrested by the stop 13, the corner portion of the towel which extends above the forefinger remaining between the jaws to be gripped by the latter when the jaws close, thereby leaving the towel suselements 21, '22 previously referred to;
Sides, 117, instead of being semi-circular have angular bends, the lower ends forming part of the jaws 115, said jaws including the described members 118 offsetting oblique members 119 correspondingwith the members 19, the terminals 120 of the said members 119 moreipronouncedly flaring.
In Figure 5 the clamp 214 is generally of pear shape, the curved lower ends formingpart of the jaws 215 said jaws including the front offset members 219 with terminals-220 directed laterally outward.
It is to be understood that the clamps 114' I would state in conclusion that while the illustrated examples constitute practical embodiments of my invention, I do not limit myself strictly to the exact details herein illustrated, since, manifestly, the same can be considerably varied without departure from the spirit of the invention as defined in the appended claims. 7
Having thus: described my invention, I claim: r
1. A holder of the class described including a back plate, a clamp disposed on the plate at the front, the lower portion of said clamp forming spring jaws, and a resilient pressed out tongue on the back plate with itslower end. in the. rear of the jaws to pre vent a towel from being entered between the back plate and jaws,
2.'-As a new article of manufacture, a rapid towel holder comprising aback plate formed with a pressed-out tongue member and a clamp 'securedito said back plate, said clamp beingformed froma unitary piece of wire coiled adjacent its center, the portions of the wire at both sides of the coil being curved to jointly form a ring, said portions extending to a point diametrically opposite said coil and there they are turned forwardly and .upwardly inplanes diVerg ing from each other and from the longitudinal aXisflofthe back plate -.to form in the frontof; the lowerf'end of said tongue memher a pair of jaws influencedby vsaid coil to close against each other 7 f 3. In combination with a back plate formed with a hook portion at its lower end and a-pressed-out tongue member intermediate its ends, of a wireclamp to constitute a towel holder secured to said plate above said hook portion, said clamp being formed with a pair ofspringy jaws disposed inthe front of the lower end of said pressed-out tonguemember, each terminating in an arm diverging laterally outward and .upward to provide guiding means for the towel when the'same is moved to be placed between the -jaws.
