F. BUSENBURG CHILD'S COMEINATIO)! UNDERGARMENT I Filed Sept. 10 .192; s Sheets-Sheet 2 FANNY BUSENBURG, 0F PINE BLUFF, ARKANSAS.
CHILDS COMBINATION UNDERGARMENT.
Application filed September 10, 1921?.- Serial No. 661,924,
To all w/zo'm it may 007mm:
Be it known that I, FANNY BUSENBURG, a citizen of the United States, residing at PineBlufl, in the county of Jefferson and State of Arkansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Childrens Combination Undergarments, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to undergarments for children. The object of the invention is to provide a girls combination undergarment which is simply cut, ccpable of withstanding continued wear and strain, and easily laundered and thoroughly reinforced in all parts that begin to wear first. This object I accomplish by the construction shown in the accompanying drawing I in which- Fig. 1 is a front View of my improved undergarment;
Fig. 2 is a rear view of the same;
Fig. 3 is a plan of the front half of the garment prior to connecting the shoulder straps;
Fig. 4 shows the seat portion with the two members and waist-band disconnected; and
Fig. 5 is a detail showing one of the button patches and strengthening tapes.
Figure 6 is an enlarged rear view with the seat flap in open position.
The front portion 1, of the garment waist, has arm holes 22, out out of the upper portion which are closed by bringing together the straplike extensions 3-3, which when stitched together form the shoulder straps. A binding of bias tape 4 is stitched around the arm holes to prevent wear and tear. Back forming extensions H of the side of the front form the back of the upper and waist member of the garment and are curved, as at 55, to correspond to the curve 6 of the front portion 1 between the arm holes to form the shaped neck opening. This neck opening is bound with bias tape 7. The meeting edges of the extensions 4, 4, are hemmed and provided with buttonholes 8 and buttons 9 or other fastenings maybe provided if desired. The lower edges of the back portions 4-4 extend down to the waist line and at the sides of the garment are curved downwardly as at 1010 to form part of the side openings 11-11. The side edges of the front 1 are extended down below the lower ends of the side openings 11, 11, to the leg openings 1212, thence inwardly as at 1313 at a downward incline to opposite ends of the middle curved"po1 tion 1 1 of the lower edge of the front'te form parts of the leg openings 12-12 and closed crotch 15.
The drop seat is formed of two pieces 1717 joined together in the middle on the bias as at 16 and shaped at 1818 corre-' sponding to the inclines 13-43 andcurved between the inclines 1818 as at 19 to correspond with the curved crotch forming portion lt to which they are stitched and so complete the leg openings 12 -12 and closed crotch 15, respectively. The upper 'edgeof the seat is athered and provided with a waist-band member 20 havingbutton holes 21. The middle button hole 21 receives the lower button '9 and the end button holesreceive buttons 2222 on the back portions 4' located in line with the said lower button 9. The lower portions of the side edges of the seat 17.17 are stitched to the lower portions of the sides ofthe front piece 1 from the lower ends of the side openings 11, 11 to the outer edges of the leg openings 12-12. The leg openings 12 are hemmed as at 12 and the side openings 1111, are bound with bias tape 11, 11 from the waist-band 20 entirely around to the lower edges of the back members H. The upper outer corners of the seat members 17 overlap the curved edges 1010 so as to completely close. the side openings 11-11, when the seat is buttoned. This formation of the side openings is a decided advantage as great strength is added to the garment where it is most needed and the seat members 17 being joined on the bias permits the seat to stretch without undue strain when the wearer bends.
To further protect the garment under strain I provide tapes 2525 which are stitched to back portions 1 from the lower edges of the arm holes down to the lower edges of said back portions and I also stitch patches 26 to the back portions from their lower edges to points about half-way to the arm holes and the side buttons 22, 22 are secured by sewing them to the three thicknesses formed by the garment material, the tapes and the patches so that tearing is prevented under the severest strain.
It will be seen that I have providedan undergarment that will withstand hard wear and laundering owing to. the reinforcing in all parts where wear occurs first. Thegarstantial.
A pocket 28 is also provided having a fastening loop to engage a button 29.
WVhat I claim is 1. A childs undergarment, comprising a single piece front cut out in its upper edge with a central necgk opening 6 and cut out at opposite sides thereof, as at 2-2, to form the pairs of shoulder strap extensions 33; each pair of extensions being joined to form shoulder straps, integral back forming extensions 4c4 at opposite sides of said front curved on their upper edges to correspond with the central neck opening and at their lower edges extending inwardly to the narrower lower portion of said front portlon; the narrower lower portion of the front extending down to form leg portions, and inclined inwardly to a curve crotch portion, and a seat secured at its lower crotch forming curve to the crotch portion of the front and secured along a portion of its sides to the sides of the lower portion of said front portion to form leg openings, a waistband on the upper drop portion of the seat member, and suitable fastenings for the back forming extensions and the waistband.
V 2. A childs undergarment, comprising a single piece waist or body open at the back and having neck and arm openings; the material of said waist being extended down to the crotch and curved at the junction of its sides with the lower edges of the back as at 1010, and a seat formed of two halves secured together at the middle on the bias, and a waist band on the upper edge of the seat; the lower portions of the sides of the seat being stitched to the corresponding portions of the downward extensions of the waist and free thereabove to form the side openings, and the lower middle portion of the seat being stitched to the corresponding portion of said waist extension to form a closed crotch and leg openings, and a continuous binding tape extending along the lower edges of the back along both edges of the side openings.
3. In a childs undergarment a waist having neck and arm holes and an open back provided with fastening devices and a drop seat provided with a waist band having button holes, tapes extending from the arm holes downwardly and inwardly to the lower edges of the back, patches extending from said lower edges up towards the arm holes and overlying said tapes, buttons sewed to the waist through the tapes and patches and adapted for the end button holes of the waist band.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
