This invention relates to improvements in cover sleeping garments, undergarments and outerwear, open at the front from the crotch to the top thereof.

More particularly the invention relates to a drop seat and means for adjusting the seat, and which also relates to the construction of the drop seat.

An object of the invention is the provision of a garment of the indicated character embodying a drop seat and the simple means whereby the seat may be dropped from and returned to a covering or closing position, the means being so constructed and applied as to preserve the shape and usual comfort of the garment.

A further object of the invention is the provision of a garment drop seat embodying novel features of construction whereby the seat will have the proper amount of fullness lending itself to the comfort of the wearer.

The nature of the invention and its distinguishing features and advantages will appear when the following specification is read in connection with the accompanying drawing, in which:-

Fig. 1 is a front view of a garment selected to illustrate the invention which is applied thereto;

Fig. 2 is a back view of the garment, a portion thereof being broken away;

Fig. 3 is a fragmentary side view of the garment;

Fig. 4 is an enlarged section taken on the line 4-4 of Fig. 1.

Referring now more particularly to the several views of the drawing, it will be apparent that there is shown a garment in the form of a childs pajamas ID by way of example. The garment is therefore open or divided at the front from the crotch to the top thereof, and at said opening there is provided a facing band or strip I I folded on itself longitudinally and secured by a line. of stitching I2 continuously from the crotch to the shoulder seam of the garment. Buttons I3 at spaced intervals are secured to the band or strip II. Another band or strip I4 folded on itself longitudinally is secured by a line of stitching I5 continuously from the crotch to the other shoulder seam of the garment. Button holes I6 are made in the band or strip I4 as well as the front section of the garment between the folds of the band or strip I4, to accommodate the buttons I3, to close the front opening of the garment. The foregoing is the usual construction in garments of the character mentioned.

In accordance with the invention the garment has a seat opening I! at the rear across the back thereof. A flap or drop seat I8 covers the opening II. The seat I8 consists of a segmental section I9 whose arcuate edge portion is joined to the portions 20 integral with the leg sections 2| of the garment, by a corresponding arcuate line 5 of stitching 22. The section I9 as joined to the portions 20 by the stitching 22 forms a curved seam which extends from one side to the other of the seat l8 at the top thereof. The upper edge of the section I9 is straight and coincidental with 1 the waistline of the garment. The portions 29 are joined by a line of stitching 23 which forms a seam from the crotch to the seam formed by the stitching 22. By reason of the construction described the seat I8 will have the proper fullness which lends itself to the comfort of the wearer.

In accordance with another feature of the invention there are provided elastic straps 24, there being one at each side of the garment, and each of the straps has one end thereof secured asat 25 to the section I9 of the seat, and its opposite end secured between the band II or I4 and the front section of the garment, the securement being effected by the stitching I2 or I5 as the case may be. The straps 24 are each of a length so as not to bind at the waist, but to comfortably draw the drop seat I8 into conformity with the body and to retain it in such position without strain on the garment sections. On reference to Fig. 4 it will be seen that one of the buttons I3 is secured by means which extends through the strap at the right side of the garment, while one of the button holes I6 is formed in the strap at the left side of the garment. Thus each of the straps 24 is effectively secured to the front sections of the garment where it is reinforced by the button or button hole band. Each of the straps 24 extends through a loop 26 secured to the garment at the side thereof coincidental with the waistline. The loops 26 cooperate with the straps 24 to return the seat I8 to its normal or up position, and enable the wearer to drop the seat downwardly to uncover the opening IT. The elastic straps 324 serve to draw the seat into conformity with the body and to retain the seat up to cover the opening I'I.

From the foregoing it will be apparent thatthere is described structural features in a garment whereby a drop seat may be readily dropped from and returned to a covering or closing position, and whereby the seat will have the proper amount of fullness for the comfort of the wearer when the seat is drawn up by the elastic straps 24.

We claim:

1. A garment of the open front type having facing strips secured to the front portion of the garment at opposite sides of the opening, also having the usual buttons on one strip, and holes in the other strip, also having a drop seat, and elastic straps arranged at opposite sides of the garment, each strap having one end secured to the seat at the top and the other end disposed under the facing strip at the related side and secured thereto, the front end of one strap taking the securing means of one of the buttons, and the front end of the other strap having a button hole therein in registry with one of said holes which receives said button.

2. A garment of the open front type having the usual buttons at one side of the opening and buttonholes therein at the opposite side of the opening, also having a drop seat, and elastic straps arranged at opposite sides of the garment, each strap having one end secured to the seat at the top, the front end of one strap taking the securing means of one of the buttons, and the front end of the other strap being secured to the garment and having a buttonhole therein in reg,- istry with one of said holes which receivessaid button.
