Description

Jul 17, 1923. 1,462.25?
M. BROCK POWDER PUFFA ND COVER THEREFOR Filed Jan. 6, 1923 anommz Patented July 17, 1923.
UNITED STATES' MAX nnoox,
1,462,257. PATENT/OFFICE- T OF NEW YORK, N. Y., A CORPORATION OF NEW YORK.
POWDER PUFF AND COVER THEREFOR.
Application filed. January 6, 1923.. Serial No. 611,124.
To allcohom t may concern: p Be it known that 1,.MAX BROCK, a citizen of the United States, and a residentof the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Powder Puffs and Covers Therefor, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improvement in powder pufis and a combined cover or casing for the same in which the powder puff is contained when not in use and whereby the powder applying surfaces are not exposed and liable to become soiled.
A further object of this invention is to provide a powder'puff and case with which several kinds of powder may be applied and by means of which the powder applying portions of the device are kept covered an clean and sanitary at all times.
With these objects and other objects which may hereinafter appear, in view, I have devised the particular arrangement of parts hereinafter set forth and more particularly pointed out in the claims appended hereto.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawing forming a part hereof in which Figure 1 is a plan view of my improved powder puff and case therefor.
Figure 2 is a sectional view on the line 2-2 of Figure 1 looking in the direction of the arrows.
Figure 3 is a plan view of the powder puff and case showing a portion of the pulf removed from its pocket in preparation for use, and
Figure 4.- is a side elevation showing one manner in which the powder puff may be used.
Throughout the various views of the drawings similar reference characters designate similar parts.
In the preferred embodiment of my invention as disclosed in the accompanying drawing, 1 indicates the back or bottom section of the case which is shown herein as being substantially circular in shape but which may be of any suitable outline to accommodate the form of puff used.
The back 1- of the case is provided with a pair of spaced- apart pockets 2 and 3 which are secured to the back about its edges by means of narrow stitching 4. The edges of the pockets 2 and 3 are also reinforced by similar stitching as shown at 5 and 6.
It will be noted that the pockets are spaced apart leaving a central open section 7 which exposesa portion of the powder puff. The powder puff shown herein consists of two fiat sections of material 8 and 9 between which lie two folded sections of pile fabric 10. and 11 which receive the powder and form the powder applying sur faces. 7
The pufl is secured within the casing at a other consists of the section 11. One of these may be used for the application of rouge and the other for the application of powder if desired.
To use the desired powder applying surface, it is simply removed from the pocket in which it. is stored and spread out flat as is disclosed in Figures 3 and 1. When the act of applying powder has been completed, the surface 10 or 11 as the case may be is folded transversely and replaced within its pocket in the position shown in Figuresl and 2.
To permit easy handling of the device,'a suitable ribbon or tape 14 is provided which extends around the back of the case.
From the foregoing it is obvious that my invention is not to be restricted to the exact embodiment shown but is broad enough to cover all structures coming within the scope of the annexed claims.
What I claim is 1. An article of the class described comprising a case having a pair of pockets, a powder puff secured in said case and'having a pair of powder-applying surfaces one of each of which is normally held in each of said pockets.
2. An article of the class described comprising a case having a pair of spaced pockets, a powder puff having a pair of powderapplying surfaces folded upon themselves with one of each of said powder-applying surfaces contained ineach of said pockets.
3. An article of the class described comprising a powder puff having a pair of powder-applying surfaces folded upon themor new YORK, N.Y., nssicnos TO I. B. KLEINERT RUBBER COMPANY,
d the section of absorbent material 10 and the pair of pockets on said case for enclosing said powder-applying surfaces.
4. An article of the class described coinprising a powder puff case having a back, a pair of spaced pockets extending from one face thereof, a powder puff secured to said case at a point between the pockets, and a pair of powder-applying sections on said puff extending into said pockets.
5. An article of the" class described comor prising a powder-pufi case having a back, a
pair of spaced pockets secured to the edge of said back and extending from one face thereoffa powder pufi' secured to the back of said case at a point between the pockets, and a pair of powder-applying sections folded in half and fitting into said pockets and independently removable from said pockets.
6. An article of the class described comprising a powder puff case having a pair of spaced pockets, a puff held within said cas ing said puff having a pair of powder-applying sections held in folded position within said pockets and adapted to be unfolded and spread out fiat when removed from said pockets.
