Ixananowrrz. a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough ol the lirouxyin the county of the Bronx and Slate of New York, have invented a new and improved 'loilct Novelty, of which the following is a full, clear, and eXa tdescription. This invention rel-ates to toilet-novelties,

and has reference more particularly to a device of this kind which comprises a foldablc body adapted to be opened and closed, the body having a face powder receptacle presenting a surface adapted for the application of the powder to the skin, and available for use when the article is open, the body also having means for forn'iing an effective seal to prevent the escape of powder through the said surface of the receptacle, when'the article is closed.

'lheinvention also relates to an article of the class described, comprising a fold-able body ha ving a powder receptacle adapted to serve asa powder puff when the article is open, and a. plurality of pockets adapted for the reception of objects such as hair pins, a

' mirror and the like, one of the pockets being arrangedin juxtaposition to the powder receptacle when the article is closed, and serving as a seal to prevent the escape of face powder from the receptacle.

The object of the invention is to provide a simple, compact and useful toilet novelty which can be fashioned from any suitable ornamental or other material,which serves as a refillable powder putt for applying face powder, and also as a receptacle for objects such as hair pins and a mirror, which, when closed, is 'subslanti-. 1.lly flat, andtakes up a comparatively small space, which can be inexpensively produced, and iron) which the face powder cannot inadvertently escape when the article is closed and not in use. 7

The invention consists in the construction and colnhi mtion ofparts to be more fully described hereinafter and particularly set forth in the claims.

Before proceeding to a more detailed explanation of my invention, it should be understood that while the device is particularly intended for use as a powder receptacle and powdei pufi, adapted to apply face powder to the skin, it can alsoloc advantageously used for similarly applying'other finely divided (1' powdered material. Attached to the 'body piece by means of stitching, or in any other suitable manner, is a facing pi ece'll covering substantially half of the al ea of the body piece 10 and conforming in outline thereto. The facing piece has an edge extending substantially across the middle of the body piece and is stitched or otherwise fastened thereto along the length of this edge except near the middle, whereby is left an opening 12, giving access to the powder pocket formed between the body piece and the facing .piece. The latter has a plurality of centrally located apertures 13 through whichthe powderin the pocket can escape for application to the skin. A tab 14 is sewed to the body piece 10 at the opening 12, and is adapted to be folded over the opening to close the same. The tab and the facing piece 11'are provided with a suitable closing device such as a button and socket fastener 15, for securing the tab in place, to seal the opening 12.

A second facing piece 16 is secured to the body iece 10 by stitching or in any other suitab e manner, covering the portion therei of which does not form part of the powder pocket. However, the facing piece 16, while having rounded edges conforming to the corresponding edge of the body piece 10, is of smaller area than the facing piece 11, so that it does not extend tothe middle of the bod piece 10, leavin a'tr'ansverse section of t e latter uncovere The body piece 10 and the facing piece 16 are joined by lines of stitching whereby a number of pockets 'for the reception of objects is formed. The latter is intended for the reception of a round, flat mirror 20, while objects such as hair pins 21 can be inserted in the pockets 17 and 19.

I prefer to arrange the apertures 13 of the powder pocket substantially central and within the outlines of the pocket 18, and specificall within the circumference of that portion 0 the mirror which is located in the pocket 18. It will be understood that the article folds along a substantially central, median line, so that when the article is closed the facing pieces 11 and 16 are in juxtaposition. the pocket 18 is suitably proportioned to receive the mirror 20 snugly and to locate it definitely with reference to the apertures 13 of the powder pocket.

While the article may be fashioned from any suitable material, I prefer to form the facing piece 11 from such material as is well adapted for the application of face powder to the skin. Such material may be chamois skin, or, as is shown in the modified form illustrated in Fig. 7, a napped fabric, 24.

Material of this kind obviously, lends itself exceeding well for use as a powder pufl".

It will be noted that a substantial space is left between the adjacent edges of the facclaim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent:

1.- An article-of the class described, comprising a foldable body adapted to be opened and closed, said body having a powder receptacle provided with a surface adapted for the application of powder to the skin and having a plurality of apertures adapted for the emission of powder, said surface being available for use as a powder puff when the article is open, said body having a pocket adapted to receive an object tending to distend said pocket and overlying said apertures when the article is closed, whereb said distended pocket forms a seal for said apertures, said pocket having a filling opening, and means for closing said opening, the articlebeiug provided with fastening" means adapted to secure it in a folded and closed condition.

2.
