1 ROUGE-HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 2, 1909.
Application filed June 10, 1908. Serial No. 437,631.
To all whom it may concern: 7
-Be it known that I, ADA SCHNEIDER, a resident of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Rouge- Holders, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The invention relates to rouge-cloths or articles designed for ladies use and the application of powder and rouge, and adapted to be conveniently carried about the person.
In the use of rouge or rouge-containing devices, it is usually necessary to provide a wrapper or receptacle therefor, sothat it may be carried about the person so that the rouge or coloring material will not be applied to whatever it may come in contact with, z. 6., the rouge or rouge-containing article cannot be carried in a hand-bag or elsewhere on the person without providing a wrapper or receptacle therefor, because the rouge would come in contact with the hand-bag. V
The invention designs to provide an improved rouge-holder which may be folded and conveniently carried in any of the usual places without providing a special receptacle therefor. p
A further object of the invention is to provide an improved rouge-cloth by which application of rouge may be made in such manner that the rouge will not be imparted to the fingers during its application.
The invention further designs to provide an improved combined rouge and powder cloth which may be conveniently carried without danger of coloring anything that it may come in contact with.
With these objects in view, the invention consists in the several novel features hereinafter set forth and more particularly de- Y chamols so that it may be convenlently carfined by claims at the conclusion hereof.
In the drawings: Figure 1 is a perspective of a rouge-holder embodying the invention. Fig. 2 is a perspective of the improved holder showing it folded so it may be used for the application of powder. Fig. 3 is a perspective of the improved holder when folded so it may be conveniently car ried about the person and so the coloringmatter and powder will be protected within the folds thereof.
A denotes a piece of suitable cloth, such'as flannel, which is usually of elliptical form and which is impregnated with suitable coloring material, by saturation ina coloring liquid. This cloth'is stitched near its edge H as at a to a suitable backing B, preferably ofchamois. This backing is also usually elliptical in form or of larger area than the cloth A so that the margin 5 of the chamois will project outwardly beyond the margin or edge of the rouge-cloth. The cloth and backing are creased longitudinally and transversely as indicated at 0, so that they may be given two folds as shown in Figs. 2
and 3. Thus the impregnated cloth may be upon each other and will not contact with the projecting marginal portion of the chamois. Therefore the marginal portion will remain and may be used to wipe off any excessof coloring matter after it has been ap lied. V
t is sometimes desirable to utilize the device for the application of face-powder as well' as rouge and the formation of the article so that it may be given a double fold makes it possible to utilize a portion of the back-face of the chamois for the application of face-powder. When the holder has been given a single fold as shown in Fig. 2, the central portion of the chamois may be used to hold face-powder so that it may be applied while the rouge-cloth lies wh olly between the folds of the chamois and when the article is given another fold into position seen in Fig. 3 the face-powder on the chamois will be held between the folds of the ried wherever desired.
The lnventlon thus provides an improved rouge-holder which embodies a cloth which has been saturated in a coloring liquid and is adapted for application of'the color as desired while the backing prevents contact of the cloth with the fingers or hands during use of the rouge-cloth. v The projecting marginal portion of the chamois protects the edges of the rouge-cloth so that they will not come in contact with the fingers in applying rouge or with anything when the cloth is folded and may be used to wipe off or distribute the-rouge when it has been applied from the cloth A. The article is foldable so that one portion of the backing may be used to hold the face-powder and furthermore it may be conveniently carried about a ladys person.
As a result of the use of a cloth which has been saturated in a liquid containing coloring matter and providing a protective backing for the saturated cloth all possibility of losing the coloring matter is avoided and this feature is advantageous over a holder containing a rouge-powder in that the latter is more likely to fall out of a containing pocket or otl' of a surface on which it is held.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
l. The combination of a cloth which has been saturated in a coloring liquid and a protective backing to which the cloth is secured the backing projecting outwardly from the edge of the cloth the backing and cloth being foldable so that the cloth will lie between the folds of the backing.
2. The combination of a cloth which has been saturated in a coloring liquid and a protective backing, the cloth and backing being stitched together and the backing having a projecting marginal portion extending outwardly from the edge of the cloth, and the backing and cloth being t'oldable so that the cloth will lie between the folds of the backing.
3. The combination of a cloth which has been saturzited in a coloring liquid and a backing to which the cloth is secured having its margins extending mitwardly beyond the edge of the cloth, said cloth and backing being foldable transversely and longitudinally so that a portion of the back-face ot the backing may be used to hold and apply hue powder and so that the powder holding portion will lie between the tolds ol the backing.
