To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ARTHUR MASTERS PEACOCK, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at lVigan, England, have invented certain new'and useful Improvements in Boxes or Containers, of Which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to boxes and containers of general application, and its object is to provide improvements therein whereby the introduction and removal of the lid or closure are facilitated.
The invention consists of a box or container having an opening with diametrically opposite projections, a flange in the container leaving a space between it and said projections. a lid fold-able across its middle and capable of being fitted in and removed from said space as a single unit, and agrip on the lid whereby the latter, when in position, can be turned on said flange to bring the fold beneath said projections to retain the lid against withdrawal.
The invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings whereon Fig. 1 shows an example of a circular container in accordance with the invention, F 2 is a similar view illustrating the manner of introducing and removing the lid or closure. and Fig. 2) shows the container in section.
Referring to the drawing 1 denotes the box or container having a circular opening and a circular lid or closure 2 which is hinged or is made foldable across its centre at 3 and is equipped with a grip or tab 3. Projections d are provided at the sides of the opening in the box,which opening is made slightly larger than the lid 2 so that the-latter can fit therein and rest on a circular flange 5 suitably supported within the box or container.

The lid 2 is removed by turning it round until the hinge 3 is clear of the projections 4 and then pulling it upwards and at the same time slightly depressing the portions thereof on each side of the hinge with the tip of the thumb and finger, as shown at Fig. 2. The lid can be placed in position again by slightly depressing said portions and inserting the edges thereof under the projections l, then pressing the lid flat and finally turning it until the hinge 2 is below the projections 4 when the lid will be held securely in position.
A boX or container in accordance with this invention is suitable for holding poW- dered substances, bonbons, preserves and for many other purposes as will be readily apparent. It may be made of cardboard, wood, metal or other material to suit requirements.
Having now fully described my invention what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is A container having an opening with diametrically opposite projections, a flange in the container leaving a space between it and said projections, a lid foldable across its middle and capable of being fitted in and removed from said space as a single unit and a grip on the lid whereby the latter, when in position, can be turned on said flange to bring the fold beneath said projections to retain the lid against withdrawal In testimony whereof I allix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
