Description
A. M. PEACOCK.
VANITY CASE 0R POWDER BOX. APPLICATION man JULYIB, I921.
Patented Maylfi, 1922.
e r a sit i ARTHUR MASTERS PEACOCK, OF NEG-AN,
VANITY CASE OR EOWDER BULK.
T0 a Z 207mm it may concern:
Be it known that l, An'rrrur. PEA- coon, residing at /Vigan, l ancashire, land, a subject oi the King-of Great Britain, have invented certain new and useful Vanity Cases or Powder Boxes, 01" which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to vanity cases or powder boxes an:L its object is to provide improvements therein.
The invention consists in a vanity case or powder box having an opening therein with inward projections, and a. lid adapted to lit in said opening and be retained therein by said projections. The case or box may be equipped with a puff, a sitter screen and with a scraper for removing excess powder from the pull.
According to one constructional form of the invention, two oppositely disposed proj ections are provided on the box and the lid is hinged or made foldable across its centre so that, when folded, it can be inserted in the opening in the box and then be retained therein by turning it until the hinge lies beneath the projections.
In a modification the lid, instead of being foldable, has openings in its periphery corresponding to the projections on the box so that when the openin and projections are brought to register the lid can be inserted in, or removed from, the box, but not otherwise.
The invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings whereon:
Fig. 1 is an isometric view of a powder box and lid in accordance with the invention.
Fig. 2 is a corresponding view to Fig. 1 showing the manner of removing the lid from the box.
Fig. 3 is another view showing the box without the lid.
Fig. 4c is a cross sectional view of the box to show the construction.
Fig. 5 shows the powder box with another form of lid in which the hinge is dispensed with and the removal of the lid obtained by providing openings therein corresponding to the projections in the box.
Referring to the drawings The box and lid shown at Figs. l-to 4 are made as follows i The box 1 has a circular opening and a circular lid 2 which is hinged at 3 and has a put? 2 at its under side. At the sides of the opening in. the box I provide projections Specification of Letters Patent.
1921. Serial No. 485,737.
larger than the lid 2 so that the latter can fit into the opening in the box and rest or. a circular flange 5 retained in position by a *asher or dis ance piece 5". Below the flange 5 l pr vide another circular flange 6. ll. suitable dis nice piece 7 is provided between the llang and 6 and'a suitable distance piece 8 is 1"i)VlClGCl between the flange 6 and the bottom 9 of the box. To the under side of the flange i l secure gauze or equiva lent filter material 10 which forms a sitter screen for the powder in known manner. In addition to, or in lieu of this screen 10 l may provide a wire, or equivalent, 11 across the box as shown by the dotted lines at Fig. 4. This wire or equivalent forms a scraper such that when the lid. 2 is turned under the projections l, the powder puff 2 will be drawn across the same and will have any ex cess of powder removed before the lid is taken from the box.
lln the example shown at Figs. 1 to 4c the lid 2 is removed by turning it round until the hinge 3 is clear or" the projections e and by pulling it upwards and at the same time slightly depressing the portions of the lid on each side of the hinge with the tip of the thumb and finger as shown at Fig. 2. The lid can be placed in position again by slightly depressing said portions so that the edge of the lid can be inserted under the. projections 4: and then, by turning the lid until the hinge 2 is below the projections 4 the lid will be held securely in position.
At 5 a powder box and lid are shown in which, instead of the hinge, openings 12 are provided in the lid and such that when the lid is placed with the projections 4; in register with the openings 12, the lid 2 can be removed from, or placed in position in, the box. The lid 2 is retained in the box by turning the edge of the lid under the projecl. The opening in the box is made slightly tions 4 so that the openings 12 are not in register with said projections.
Having now fully described my invention what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A powder box having a circular opening with two diametrically opposite projections, a lid foldable across its centre adapted to lit in said opening, and a pull attached to the underside of the lid.
2. A. powder box having a circular opening with two diametrically opposed projections, a lid. foldable across its centre adapted.-
to fit in said opening and a filter within the box.
3. A powder box having a circular openin;;' with two diametrically opposed projections, a lid iloldable across its centre adapted to Fit in said opening, a filter within the boX, and means for retaining the filter in position between the bottom and the top thereof.
41-. A powder box having a circular opening with two diametrically opposed projections, a lid folded across its centre adapted to lit in said opening, a puil carried by the lid a filter and a scraper within the box, means for retaining said filter and said StflilPGl' one above the other therein, and a seat for the lid within the box.
A powder box having an opening with inward projections, a lid adapted to fit in said opening and be retained therein by said projections, a pull carried by the lid and a scraper tor the putt within the box.
6. A. powder box having a circular opening with two diametrically opposed projeetions, a lid hinged across its centre adapted to lit in said opening and be retained therein by turning it until the hinge is beneath said projections, a pufi' carried by said lid, and means for removing surplus powder from the putt as it is turned round in the box.
7. A. powder box having an opening with inward projections a lid adapted to fit in
