POWDER-BOX.
Specification of Letters Patent. Application filed June 21, 1911. Serial No. 634,542.
Patented June a." 1912;
'- Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of 'Illinois have'invented new and useful Improvements' in Powder-Boxes, of which the following is-a specification.
The object of this invention is to provide a face powder box of novel construct-ion which can be carried in a pocket or handbag without liability of the powder escaping therefrom and which is provided with a puff arranged to sealthe perforations in the container when. not in use for applying the powder to the face. y
In the accompanying drawings illustrating my invention Figure 1 is a perspective view, of the box with the cover and puff removed. Fig. 2 is a similar 'view of the cover with the puff in place therein. Fig. 3 isa perspective'view of the Fig. at is 1 the box showing the cover and puff removed from the container. Fig. 5 is a transverse sectional view of the box with the cover in place thereon.
Referring to the drawings in which like numerals of reference denote corresponding parts in the several figures, 6 designates the cover and 7 the containerof the box. The container comprises a lower section having a bottom 8, a peripheraLbead .9 adjacent to the bottom, and a flange 10 extending upward from the bead, and an upper section comprising a top 11 having a downwardly extending peripheral flange 12. The flange 12 on the upper section is arranged to fit snugly within. the flange 10 of the lower section and against the bottom 8 to hold the powder 13 within the upper section and on the bottom 8. The to 11 has a plurality of perforations 14. T e upper part of the flange 12 between the top 11 and the upper edge of the flange 10 is made with a screwthread by suitably stamping or bendingothe flange to receive the threaded depending flange 15 of the cover 6. A powder put]? 16' of suitable form and preferabl witha backin 17 and handle 18 is arranged provided to fit within t e cover 6, as shown in Figs. 2 and l4.
' In practice the container is filled with powder before the two sections aresecured together, the upper section being placed top down on a flat surface and filled with 58 '-While I prefer this construction of the ox it is obvious that the two sections may be made to fit together tightly for 'ordiniiry purposes and yet be capable of separation for refilling if desired. The cover with the pufl" arranged therein canbe screwed down on the container sufliciently tight to comress the puff, as shown in Fig. 5, and therey seal the perforations 14.
My invention provides avery neat and convenient face powder box which can be made in various sizes and particularly in a small size adapted to be carried in a ladys pocket or handbag. When the cover is applied the pufi will prevent the powder from escaping through the perforations 'inthe top of the container and hence. there is no loss or scattering of the powder while the cover is in place. When itis desiredtouse the puff the cover is removed from the container and the puff is removed from the cover and then suflicient powder is shaken from the container through the perforations on to the pufi for the purpose desired. The ufl' may be used while still remaining in t e cover if preferred.
My invention provides a compact and convenient box for face powders which can be carried in a pocket or in a handbag without liability of the owder escaping therefrom and'wlth a pu arranged to confine the powder in the closed retainer and inv position for removal and use.
What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
A face powder box comprising acontamer consisting of two sections, a lower section having a bottom and an upwardly extending peripheral flange'having a head formed at its bottom and an upper sectlon having a perforated top and a downwardly extending peripheral flange, the flange on said upper sectionbeing adapted tofit snugly within the flange on thelower sect on and against the bottom of the lower section and having a screw-thread between the top of of the container to seal the perforationsthe 'upper section and the upper edge of therein.
7 the flange on the lower section, the cover having a. threaded flange to engage the 5 thread on the container, and a powder puff Witnesses: adapted to be detachably arranged within M. ROBERTSON, the cover and clamped thereby upon the top M. A.'Kn)nm.
