Application filed. October 14, 1911. Serial No. 65%,653.
To (all 207mm 2'6 may co more it known that l', JosErr-i "WJ Wins Myanmar], citizen oi the United States, residing; at Newark, in the county of .llssex and State of New Jersey have invented cerma". new and useful improvements in me -Boxes and i do hereh declare the follow] g to be a full, clear, and exact dedption of the invei'it-ion such as will en- :a .e others skilled in the :U'i) to which it opins to make and use the same, refer- :e being had tothe accompanying drawin s, and to letters of reference marked eon, which form a. part of this specific: 1
n's invention. relates to a. lid or cover for cum powder hox, which lid is adapted over th" perr' zlted end of the box to J for the S11E16. is adnph 2. powder puff to receive r from the nor; when the ho}: is inand. shaken, and the invention is .aer designed to provide the interior of over with means for holding the powder pun in such a. manner that when the lid or cover is witi. drawn from the box the powder puhf can be rejected from the lid so to present full surface for use on the face or he desiring to use the some, and ent contact of the edges oi": the lid of the user. The means within 'e" for projecting the putt can be a means or automatically projecting the pufi' from the oover when. the cover is removed f e host. The holding means. how- 1 he of n. kind that retreats within cover when the cover is placed over the pressed on the born The lid (13G he held on the box by the fricr engagement with the top edges of the hut it will understood that any kind eons can he employed for securing the on is illustrated in the ecooin- -ing, in which wic s adapted for use in any kindv I. .on' I prefer, however, to e round form, the hot: having e. e 115. which is provided with perforatop plete con. be made of any the best form is A. cover 1-5 is Form. but l have. found that one that is made com-ave. adapted to lit over the box and to slide over its side edges and to be held on the box against nccioenial ren'lovnl, preferably by frictional contact of its side walls H with the sides of the box. The cover is cupshaped 7 and provided with a suitable handle 15 so thotit can be easily manipulated, but it will be understood that this handle 15 is not essential. The puff 16 is arranged within the eup-shaped cover when the cover is put on the box, being compressible by reason of the natural properties of the material of which it is made, and be ing also yielding on account of its being secured. to a. suitable spring l7, which spring is scoured, in any well known manner, to the inside of the top of the cover 13. Any form of spring may be employed, but I prefer to use the form shown in Figs. 1 and 2 which is a [let spring band which is passed through the putt and holds the pufi" inplace, or it can be stitched or posted to the putt, as will be understood. 1
W hen the cover is withdrawn from the box the spring 1? assumes its normal positionl shown in Fig. 2, and projects the puff 16 from the box far enough to present its full surface to the user by forcing it out far enough beyond the edges 01" the side walls 14: of the cover to prevent the edges of the side walls from coming in Contact with the skin when the putt is used. It will be understood that powder can be put on the put? before the cover taken from the box, and in this way the powder is not wasted or spread mound as is sometimes the case when the powder is put on the puii by shakit on when the puff is removed from the box.
It will be understhod that Changes of construction within the scope of the appended claims may be employed in this device without departingt'rom the scope of the invention, and I do not wish to be limited to the exact forms and mezms'shown herein for projecting the puff from the cover after the cover is removed from the box Having thus described my invention, what I claim is:-
1. A powder box, a cover adopted to be placed on the box, 3. powder puff arranged he slid within the cover by the box when the cover is placed on the box, and means for automatically projecting the powder puff from the cover when the cover is removed from the box. I
2. A powder box havin a perforated top splate, a cover adapted to be placed over the perforated end of the box, a powder puff arranged to slide within the cover and adapted to be engaged by the top plate of the box whenthe cover is put-on the box and to be forced thereby within the cover, and means for projecting the puff from the cover when the cover is removed from the box.
3. A powder box having a perforated top plate, a cover adapted to be placed over the perforated end of the box, a powder puff arranged to slide within the cover and adapted to be engaged by the top plate of the box when the cover is put on the box and to be forced thereby within the cover, and a spring within the cover for projecting the powder puff from the cover when the cover is removed from the box.
4. A powder box having a perforated top plate, a'cover adapted to be placed over the perforated end of the box, a powder putf ar ranged to slide within the cover and adapted to be engaged by the top plate of the box when the cover is put on the box and to be freed thereby withln the cover, and a spring secured to the puff and secured to the cover, said spring acting to limit the outward movement of the puff and adapted to project the pull from the cover when the cover is removed from the box.
5. A dispensing appliance comprising a receptacle, a recessed cover therefor, a brush mounted in said cover to normally protrude out of the mouth of the same, said brush adapted to be driven into the recess in said cover, when the latter is applied to the receptacle by the eoaction of said cover, brush and receptacle.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing, I have hereunto set my hand this 8th day of July 1910.
