This invention relates to hair growing appliances, and more particularly to an applicator a comb which is employed as the hair oil app1i.

Figure 1 is a front elevational View of a hair oil applicator device according to the present invention, said device being shown partly in crosssection.

Figure 3 is a horizontal cross-sectional view taken on line 3,-3 of Figure 1.

Referring to the drawing, II' designates a cupshaped housing, which may be made of suitable thin material such as plastic, sheet metal, or the like. As shown in Figure 3, housing I I is generally oval in horizontal cross-section. Contained within housing II is a mass of absorbent material I2 such as cotton, sponge, cloth, or the like, said absorbent material being saturated with hair dressing or hair oil. The absorbent mass I2 is secured as by suitable glue, to the inner wall surfaces of housing II. Secured to the upper portions of said inner wall surfaces by glue or the like is an inverted cup-shaped member I3 having an elongated opening I4 in its top wall adapted to receive a comb I5. The absorbent mass I2 is suitably recessed at I6 to receive the lower half of comb I5. Comb I may be of a conventional type having one half thereof provided with coarse teeth and the other half provided with fine teeth. For most eicient service, the fine toothed portion of the comb should be employed as the hair oil applicator, and the comb should be normally positioned with the fine-toothed portion thereof in recess I6, as shown in Figures 1 and 2.

A protective cup-shaped removable cap I'I normally covers the upper half of comb I5, said cap frictionally engaging the exposed outer wall surfaces of member I3 and being ilush with the walls of housing I I. A compact and neat article is thus provided which may be conveniently carried in a coat pocket or purse. To use the applicator, cap

I'I is removed and comb I5 is withdrawn and the fine-toothed portion thereof applied to the hair. The comb, of course, may be otherwise employed in the conventional manner. When the hair grooming operation is completed, comb I5 is returned to its normal sheathed position with its fine-toothed portion encased in recess I6, and cap I'I is restored.

To replenish the supply of oil, comb I5 is removed and the oil is admitted into absorbent mass I2 through opening I4 in any suitable manner, as for example, by the use of an eye-dropper.

While a specific embodiment of a hair oil applicator device has been disclosed in the foregoing description, it will be understood that various modifications within the spirit of the invention may occur to those skilled in the art. Therefore it is intended that no limitations be placed on the invention other than as defined by the scope of the appended claims.

What is claimed is:

l. A hair oil applicator device comprising two abutting casing members having a common abutment, a cup-shaped cap internally positioned in said casing members with substantially equal portions on each side of said abutment and secured to one of said casing members, the cap having an elongated slot conforming generally with the cross-sectional contour of a comband adapted to admit one end of a comb into the end of said casing member to which said cap is secured, a mass of oil-absorbent material secured within said casing member to which said cap is secured, said mass being recessed to accommodate said toothed portion in intimate contact therewith, and said other casing member adapted to slidably engage the outside oi said cap.

A hair oil applicator device comprising two abutting casing members having a common abutment, a cup-shaped cap having one open end and internally disposed within the casing members with substantially equal portions on each side of said abutment and secured in inverted position to one casing member with the open end of the cap concealed within the latter casing member and the other end exposed in projecting position when the two casing members are separated, the other exposed end of said cap having an elongated slot conforming generally to the cross-sectional contour of a comb and adapted to admit one end of a combinto the end of said casing member to which said cap is secured, and a mass of oil-absorbent material secured within the latter casing and the other casing member being adapted to 3 sldably engage upon the outside of said cap to Number conceal the exposed portion thereof. 469,064 MELVIN E.
