Description

Nov. 24, 1931. M. SIERAD ET AL 1,833,541
COSMETIC APPLIANCE Filed Aug. 5, 1931 Patented Nov. 24, 1931 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE MILTON SIERAD, OF NEW YORK, AND ALBERT E. SIERAD, OF BRONX, NEW YORK, AS- SIGNORS 'IO GEORGE W. BUTTON CORPORATION, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., A CORPORA- TION OF NEW YORK COSMETIC APPLIANCE Application filed August 3, 1931.
This invention relates to improvements in cosmetic appliances and more particularly to improvements incosmetic appliances for the application of hair tonics, hair lotions and similar articles.
A particular object of our invention is the provision of a bottle and cap having in combination therewith a comb which is normally in contact with or submerged in the liquid contained in the bottle. A further object of our invention is the provision of a combination bottle, cap and comb which will be normally held in the bottle containing a hair treating liquid and in which a satisfactory quantity of the liquid will adhere to the comb when same, in combination with the cap, is removed from the bottle. 1
Further objects of our invention will be apparent from the specification and drawings, in which Fig. 1 is a side elevation partly in section showing a bottle, .cap and comb attached to the bottle cap.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of my combination bottle, cap and comb.
Fig. 3 is a vertical section showing a modified form of cap with the shank of the comb imbedded in the material of which the cap or stopper is composed.
Fig. 4 is a sectional view of another modification showing the shank of the comb threaded into the cap.
Fig. 5 is a sectional view of an additional modification showing the shank of the comb held tightly in the cap by frictional engagement.
Fig. 6 is a sectional view showing another 40 modified form with the shank of the comb passing through the body of the cap and havlng the end thereof threaded into engagement with the cover of the cap.
10 designates the bottle, 11 the cap or stop- 45 per, 12 the thread on the inside of the cap, 13 designates the comb, .14 the shank thereof.
15 in Fig. 1 shows the cement by which the shank of the comb is fastened to the cap.
16 indicates the liquid in the bottle, 17 a cork stopper in the modification shown in Fig. 3, 18 the top of the cap in Fig. 3, 19 the Serial No. 554,622.
cap in Fig. 4, 20 the threaded portion of the shank of the comb,-21 the cap in Fig. 5,
22 being the cork portion thereof, and 23 ametal insert in said cap, 24 designating another layer of cork at the bottom of the cap in Fig. 5. 25 designates the cap of Fig. 6, 26 the threaded portion thereof, and 27 the cork portion of the cap.
Figs. 7 and 8 show another method of suspending the comb in the cap of the bottle, Fig. 7 being a vertical section showing the comb suspended in the bottle, Fig. 8 being a horizontal section along the line 8-8 of Fig. 7. In this modification 28 designates the outer cap, 29 the cork insert, 30 being a threaded cap with a slot therein and 31 another cork insert with a'slot therein, said slot being designated as 32. In this modification the end of the comb 14a is inserted through the slots 32 and the cork 31 and threaded cap 30. Then the comb with the parts 30 and 31 are inserted into the outer cap having the cork insert 29, and the assembly is complete. I
For purposes both of convenience and sanitation, it is in many cases desirable to have a clean comb for applying a hair preparation, such as lotion of brilliantine, a hair tonic, or similar preparation, and the most convenient form of providing this comb is in relation to the liquid itself which is to be applied to the hair. For this reason, we have devised a novel form of cap and comb in which the comb will be normally in contact with the liquid.
In the illustration given in the drawings herein, the comb is made independently of the cap or stopper and attached thereto by the means shown, though it is also possible to form the comb integral with the cap, and in some cases this would be an advantage.
It should be noted that the construction of the'comb may be modified according to the consistency of the liquid in the bottle, as it is apparent that where a thick liquid is used, the tines of the comb may be spaced further apart than where a liquid of great fluidity is employed in which case the tines of the comb should be more closely set together.
It should also be noted that for this parcomb of the in which the shank of the comb is threaded into the cap and the comb is readily removable from the cap for purposes of cleaning the comb separately if this is desired.
It is also desirable that the cap of the bottle be made of a material similar to the comb such as bakelite, hard rubber or similar composition material, and the cap and the comb should preferably harmonize in color.
We do not wish to be limited, however, to any particular material for the cap shown in this combination.
Whilst we have shown the preferred forms of our invention, other changes and modifications may be made therein without departing from the spirit thereof.
Having fully described our invention, what we claim is:
1. In a cosmetic appliance, the combination of a wide-mouthed bottle, a cap closin same, and a comb attached to said cap, sai comb being normally held within the body of the bottle.
2. In a cosmetic appliance, in combination, a bottle, a cap fitting the same and a comb liquid, a cap havin a threaded collar fitting the mouth of said ottle, a cylindrical member on the center of said cap and a comb suspended in said bottle, the handle of sa1d comb fitting in the said cylindrical member.
9. In combination, a bottle containing a liquid, a cap of plastic material clwin the mouth of said bottle, theinterior of sai cap bein provided with a cylindrical holding mem er and a comb suspended in said bottle, the shank of said com being held in said internal cylindrical member.
In testimony whereof we afiix our signatures.
MILTON SIERAD. ALBERT E. SIERAD.
having a shank fitting said cap, the body of I said comb being held within said bottle.
3. In combination, a bottle containing a liquid, a cap normally closing said bottle and a comb having a handle, said handle being attached to the inside of said cap and said comb being suspended within said bottle.
4. In a cosmetic appliance, in combination, a bottle, a cap forsaid bottle, said ca being internally threaded, and a comb held y said cap, the end of the handle of said comb bein threaded and held within the thread on said cap.
I 5. In combination, a bottle, a composition cap for said bottle, a comb having a shank said shank being held by said cap and sai comb being positioned entirely within said bottle.
6. In a cosmetic appliance, in combination, a bottle containing a hair treating liquid, a cap for said bottle, a comb adapted to appl said liquid to the hair, the end of said com being attached to said cap and said comb being normally held in the liquid in said bottle.
7 In combination, a bottle containing a hair treating liquid, a cap having a collar fitting over the mouth of said bottle, and a cylindrical member in the center of said cap,
' and a comb suspended in said bottle, the
handle of said comb being held within cylindrical member on said cap.
8. In combination, a bottle containing a the
