RECEP'IACLE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented April 6, 1909.
Application filed September 6, 1905. Serial No. 277,2t4.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, AnoLrn BOPP, a citizen of the United States, resident of the borough of Brooklyn, county of Kings, city and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Re ceptacles, of which the followingis a specification.
My invention relates to receptacles such as are used for delivering and protecting pies, and has for its object to provide means whereby the brittle contents may be readily handled, shipped or inspected without 0):- posing them to the deteriorating efiects oi the atmospheric solids and whereby the opening of said receptacle is substantially coincident with the consumption of the contents.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawing in which Figure 1 is a plan View of my improved receptacle and Fig. 2 is a sectional view on line 22 thereof.
In" the drawing A is the bottom of the receptacle or box and B is the top thereof.
One end of said receptacle is open and is p)rovided with side flaps C and closing flaps by means of which the said open end is adapted to be closed and scaled as by a seal D, which may bear a date if desired. For the purpose of ventilation the closed end and the closing flap D of said box are proin paraffin paper and then placed in the receptacle, (as shown in Fig. 2) in such a manner that the edges of theopening E are slightly raised. 'i'hese edges exercise a grip upon the contents by reason of the elasticity of the card board, thereby preventing the edge of the pie from breaking by contact with the walls of the receptacle. The receptacle A, B is of course about as high as the central portion of the pie. After the open end is scaled up it is impossible to remove or tamper with the contents of the receptacle during the delivery. The danger of substituting an inferior grade of pie or other articles is also overcome, as it is impossible to remove the contents of the receptaclc without destroying or mntilating the seal which closes the open end.
I ciaim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
A receptacle rovided with an open end and a closed on having a series of apertures therein, a flap for closing said open end, said flap being provided with a series of apertures corresponding to those of the closed end, and a seal for securing said flap in its closed position so that the. contents of the receptacle cannot be disturbed without nintilating or breaking the seal, said receptacle being further provided with an additional opening in one of its faces for positioning the contents thereof and for exposing said contents to view without permitting the contents to be removed therethrough.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my name in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ADOLPII BOPP.
