Witgesgzs:
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FRANK A. MOON AND ANDREW J. CUSHMAN, OF KALAMAZOO, MICHIGAN.
CIGAR-BOX.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Batented Feb. 26, 1907.
Application filed May 28, 1906. Serial No. 319,151.
To all whom, it ntag concern.-
Be it known that we, FRANK A. MooN and ANDREW J. CUSHMAN, citizens of the United States, residing at Kalamazoo, county of Kalamazoo, State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cigar-Boxes, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in cigar-boxes.
The main object of this invention is to rovide an im roved cigar-box which may e opened for the display and removal of the cigars and has while open no projecting covers and at the same time affords an effective display for the labels and revenuestamp.
Further objects and objects rela'tin to from structural details will definitely appear the detailed description to follow.
We accomplish the objects of our invention by the devices and means described in the following specification.
The invention is clearly defined and pointed out in the claim.
A structure embodying the features of our invention is clearly illustrated in the acc0mpanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which Figure 1 is a perspective View of our improved cigar-box when closed and sealed, the revenue-stamp and brand-labels being shown thereon. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of our improved cigar-box shown open with the cigars displayed therein.
In the drawings, similar letters of reference refer to similar parts throughout both views.
Referring to the drawings, A represents the body of the box, which is provided with a cover formed of sections B and C, extending crosswise of the box. These cover-sections are arranged so that they may be opened independently of each other. The coversection 0 is secured by a hinge 0, preferably of paper, so that the cover can be readily torn ofl when the box is opened. It is held in its closed position by a suitable brad (indicated at c) and when closed is preferably further secured by a suitable sealing-label F, which is destroyed on opening the box.
The covering-section B serves as a display for the revenue-stamp and brand-labels. The revenue-stamp and brand-labels when thus arranged are in full display while the box is open. It is the common practice to place the brand-label on the inside of the covering, so that it is displayed when the covering is open. Our improved cigar-box effectively displays the cigars and at the same time the labels and revenue-stamp. It has a further advantage of occupying only a minimum amount of space in a show-case, as it has no hanging covers to obscure other adjacent boxes or parts thereof.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In a cigar-box, the combination of a body; a cover formed of transverse sections adapted to be opened independently of each other, one of said cover-sections being detachably secured to said body whereby the same may be removed to permit the removal of the cigars without disturbing the other sectioncover, substantially as described, and for the purpose specified.
In witness whereof we have hereunto set our hands and seals in the presence of two witnesses.
