POWDER-BOX.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed October 24, 1908.
Patented Apr. 19, 1910.
Serial No. 459,391.
T o all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MICHAEL F. SHEA, a citizen of the United States, residing at Newport, State of Rhode Island, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Powder-Boxes, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
My invention relates to improvements in powder boxes and is particularly adapted for carrying tooth powder being provided with a slidable ntercommunicating top adapted to receive the bristles of an ordinary tooth brush so that the same may be supplied with powder by inverting the box and operating the same in the manner to be hereinafter set forth.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a perspective view of the box partly broken away illustrating an application of my invention, and Fig. 2 is a cross section on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1 looking from left to right.
4 is the body of the box and 5 is the inner top of the box provided with a suitable opening 6.
7 is the outer top provided with an opening such as 8 and which may be provided with projecting anges 9 and 10 adapted to engage the outer rim 3 of the inner top so that the same may be moved backwardly and forwardly in the upper recess of the box proper. When the powder has been put in the box the member 7 is preferably pushed to one side closing the opening. The hook engaging flanges 9 and 10 of the member 7 may be made to fit snugly to the upper flanges of the inner top so that the member 7 stays in the position in which it is placed until shifted for use.
When it is desired to use the powder in the box the tooth brush is inserted into the member 7, bristles rst, and the box is inverted, after which by shifting the member 7 across the opening 6 the contents of ythe box passes through said opening and the opening 8 of the member 7 covering the bristles of the brush and when the brush is removed the same is properly powdered for use. By dampening the brush before the same is inserted into the top of the box the powder will adhere much better.
Of course it will be understood that various other modifications may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention.
I claim:
In a powder box, a depressed cover having an opening therein and flanges extending beyond said box and resting upon the upper edges of the box sides providing a guide-way in such a manner that said cover can be readily removed, a slide member within said cover also provided with an opening and having projecting sides loosely engaging said guide-way, said member being adapted to receive-a brush and to be slid within said cover in such a manner that said holes are brought into registry each time said member is slid across said cover.
In testimony whereof I ailix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
MICHAEL F. SHEA.
