SALES-1860K COVER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 22, 1922.
Application filed. February 14, 1921. Serial No. 444,911.
To all'whom it may concern. I
Be it known that I, FREDERICK HACH- MANN, a citizen of the United States, and resident of the city of St. Louis, State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sales-Book Covers, of which the following is a specification containing a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompany-- ing drawings, forming a part hereof.
My invention relates to improvements in sales book covers and has for its primary object the construction of a cover, back and intermediate sections stamped or formed of sheet metal and having a number of plates or sections for holding'sales slips, sales book record, and other necessary memoranda which are employed in department stores, etc.
A further object of my invention is a construction whereby the covers are held off the furniture, etc., to prevent the marring or scratching of the furniture on which the book may be placed.
This invention is an improvement'on the application filed by me January 29, 1921, Serial Number 440,914.
In the drawings:
Fig. 1 is a bottom end view of my improved cover when equipped for use, closed;
Fig. 2 is a view of the covers when open;
Fig. 3 is a section taken on the line 33 of Fig. 2;
Fig. 4 is a plan view of the blank for the front cover;
Fig. 5 is a plan view of the blank for the back cover;
Fig. 6 is a view of the blank for one of the sections hinged to the back cover;
Fig. 7' is a plan view of the blank for the back;
Fig. 8 is a plan view of the blank for an intermediate section hinged to the back;
Fig. 9 is an end view of Fig. 7
Fig. 10 is a plan view of blank for the retaining strip for holding the sales book in position; and
Fig. 11 is a view of blank for the clamp mounted on the section as illustrated in Fig. 6.
Referring to the drawings:
12 indicates the front cover, which is formed or stamped from sheet metal and has formed near its upper and lower edges inturned projecting flanges 13 and 14,'under which the record slip 15 may be inserted. Formed along the vertical margins of-the front cover 12 are outward projections or r1bs 16, which are for the purpose of preventing the cover from scratching the fur niture on which it may be placed.
Formed along one margin of the front cover 12 are a series of tongues 17 which are bent to form hinge eyes 18. 19 indicates the back, which is likewise stamped out of sheet metal and is provided on its opposite margins with a series of tongues 20 and 21.
These tongues are bent so as to form hinge eyes 22a11d 23.
Formed adjacent the tongues 20 are a series of parallel slits 24 and the strips of metal 25 between the slits are bent inwardly, as illustrated in Fig. 9, to form hinge eyes 26. The front cover 12 is hingedly connect ed to the back 19 by means of a pin 27. 28 indicates the back of the cover and along one edge of the same are stamped a series of tongues 29, which are bent and formed into eyelets 30. Formed integral with the back cover 28 is a strip 31 which is bent at right angles to the inside face of the back 28 and on one end of said strip is formed an integral hook 32.
Secured to one end of said strip 31 is a clamping strip 33. This strip is secured to the strip 31 by being bent around the strip 31 and riveted or soldered thereto, and the other end of said strip is left free and is adapted to be engaged under the hpok 32 for holding the sales book 34 in p ace.
Pivotally secured to the back 28 is a section 35. This section 35 is provided along one margin with a series of tongues 36 which are bent to form hinge eyes 37, which eyes coincide with the eyes 38 formed on the back 28, the eyes formed on the back being formed by bending the tongues 39 formed on the back margin. Section 35 is adapted to be folded in on the inside surface of the back 28 when the book cover is closed.
Formed on the intermediate section 35 are a series of inwardly bent tongues or teeth 40. The intermediate section 35 is provided on its upper edge with a series of tongues 41 which are bent into eyes 42. 43 indicates a spring clamp which is pro vided with tongues 44 which are bent to form eyes 45, and by means of a pin 46 the spring clamp 43 is pivotally connected to the eyes 42 of the section 35. It will be noted in this connection that the portion 4:? of the section 35 is to be bent upwardly at right-angles. The spring clamp 4.3 is provided with teeth 48 which are opposed to the teeth l0 formed on the section 85.
49 indicates another intermediate section having formed along one of its margins a series of tongues 50 which are formed into eyes 51. The eyes 51 interengage with the eyes 26 formed on the. back and by means of. a pin 52 the section 49 is secured to the back 19 of the cover. This section 49 is also provided near its upper and lower ends with flanges 58 for holding any memoranda slips as desired.
- When the cover is closed, as illustrated in Fig. 1, the section 49 rests on the top edge of the right angular strip 31. The back 28 is likewise provided with a series of externally pressed ribs 54 which prevents the back fro m scratching or marring the furniture on which the book cover is placed. It will be observed that my improved cover has a front and back cover and a back, all formed out of metal, and to the back thereofis pivotally secured an all-metal section and to the back cover thereof is also pivotally secured an intermediate section which folds inwardly, and the entire cover consists of four sections on which are adapted to be placed any desired memoranda which are employed in making and recordin sales in department stores and the like. *ormed on the intermediate section 35 is a stop 55, against which the lower edge of the'sa-les slips may rest. This stop is formed by forming a tongue on the lower edge of the section 35, as illus trated in Fig. 6, and then bending it at right angles to said section.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim is:
1. A sales book cover, comprising a front cover stamped from sheet metal and provided on its outer face with longitudinal ribs, a series of tongues bent into eyes formed along one margin of said front cover, an in ternally projecting sheet holding flange formed near the upper and lower edges of said front cover, a back having a series ofi tongues bent into eyes along its opposite margins and a series of eyes formed intermediate of said first mentioned eyes, an allmetal intermediate section pivotally secured to said back, a back cover formed of metal provided on its outer face with a series ofi projecting ribs and provided with a series of eyes on its opposite margins and pivotally secured to said back, an integral strip bent at right angles to said back cover and having formed on one end thereof a hook, a flexible stripsecured to said first mentioned strip and provided with a free end adapted to be engaged with said hook, an intermediate section hinged to the back cover and adapted to be folded inwardly, and a spring clamp pivotally secured to the second mentioned intermediate section. I
2. A sales book cover comprising a. front cover and a back cover stamped from sheet metal and provided on their outer faces with longitudinal ribs, a series of tongues bent into eyes formed alongone margin of said front cover, an internally projecting sheet holding flange formed near the upper and lower edges of said front cover, aback having a series of tongues bent into eyes along its opposite margins and pivoted by one series to the front cover and a series of eyes struck from the back intermediate of the eyes formed along the margins and-adjacent the front cover said back cover being for-med of metal and provided with a series of eyes on its opposite margins and pivotally secured by one series to said back, a strip disposed at right angles to; said back; and connected therewith by a series of integral tongues or strips, a hook formed on one; end of said strip, a flexible strip secured to said first mentioned strip. and having afree end adapted to engage with said hook, an intermediate section having eyes formed along one margin and pivotally secured to the back cover, said intermediate section adapted to be folded inwardly toward the front face of the back cover, abent portion formed integral with said intermed ate section, a series of eyes formed on the upper edge of said portion, a spring clamp pivotally secured to said right angular bent portion, a second intermediate section formed of metal and pivoted to the intermediate series of eyes on said back adjacent to the front cover and adapted when the covers are closed to lie on the top edge of the strip carried by the back cover, and a sheet holding flange formed adjacent the upper and lower ends of said second mentioned intermediate section. j j x In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification.
