UNIT E D ST.
WILLIAM wrrruaealn, or BROOKLYN, new roan.
ALBUM- roe DISK nnconns.
.Application filedlleoember 12, 1921. Serial No. 521,780.
1 '0 all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, WILLIAM VILBURGER, a citizen of theUnited States, andresident of;Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Lmprovements in Albums for Disk Records, of which the following is afull, clear, and exact specification.
This invention relates to albums for disk records or other loose leaf books, and has for its object to, provide improved and simplified means for detachably holding leaves in such books or albums.
Special objects are to support the leaves more evenly-in the book, thereby insuring the ready movement thereof without danger of sticking or tearing,;and to provide retaining members or bars of improved. construction whichwvill securely hold the leaves and. may be easily applied and removed. .Qther objects will appear .asthe. description proceeds.
The invention will be first hereinafter described in connection .with the accompanying drawings, which constitute part of this specification, and then more specifically defined in the claims at the end of the description.
In the accompanying drawings, wherein similar reference characters are used to designate corresponding parts throughout the several views Figure 1 is a front elevation of an album constructed substantially in accordance with this invention, the front cover being swung to open position.
Figure 2 is a section on the line IL-II of Figure 1 with the front cover closed, and
Figure 3 is a detailed perspective view of one of the retaining members.
The back 1 of the album or book may be made of wood, metal or composition and is formed substantially as illustrated in Figure 2 with a convex inner face 8, rounded edges 7, and inwardly extending ribs spaced from said lateral edges 7. Said back 1 has a covering of cloth or other suitable material 3 on its outer surface which may be extended over the outer faces of the covers 2 of the book. A similar covering 4 is secured to the inner surface of the back 1 and may also extend around the ribs 5 and over the inner faces of the covers 2 of the book.
The ribs 5 have sockets 9 formed therein and opening on their outer faces 6 which 7 are preferably beveled inwardly to permit the covers 2 of the book tobe fully closed without binding against said ribs. The leaves or record-holdingenvelopes 18.;are detachably fastened to the back 1 byarched retaining members or barsll, having-their middle portions curved to. lie parallel to the convex inner face 8 of the back 1. Theend portions 12 of the retaining members ll a re bent to engage the outerfaces of theribs 5 and their extremities are bent inwardly substantially at right angles to saidend portions 12 to enter the sockets 9. asv clearly illustrated in Figure 2.. Said retaining members 11 are made of spring metal-which is capable of holding the extremities lO, in the sockets 9 when engaged therewith. \Vhen it is desired to remove the leaves 13 from the book, or fasten othersv therein, one end portion 12. of eachretainingmember may be forced or sprung outwardly to re lease its extremity. 10 from the socketc9, whereupon the other extremity of each of said retaining members may be easily disengaged from its socket in the opposite rib 5. The retaining members being thus disengaged from the back 1, the leaves 13 may be easily removed or others added over either of the ends of said members.
The retaining members 11 are preferably made relatively broad and flat in order to provide adequate support for the leaves and at the same time offer minimum obstruction thereto. Tl e leaves are provided with perforations 14: to loosely fit over the retaining members 11, and the inner edges 15 of said leaves are designed to rest against the covering 4 on the convex inner face of the back 1. Inasmuch as said inner face of the back 1 and the central portions of the retaining members 11 are parallel to each other, the engagement of said inner face of the back by the inner edges of the leaves or envelopes provides a much better sup oort for said leaves or envelopes than in prior constructions, there being no chance for the leaves to work in and out on the retaining members or bars whicn would tend to tear the perforations 14..
I claim:
1. The combination with a back having a convex inner face, of detachable leaf-retaining members having curved portions parallel to said inner face of the back for the purpose specified.
2. The combination with a back having a convex inner face, of detachable leaf-retaining members having curved portions parallel to said inner face of the back, and leaves having perforations for the passage of said retaining members, the inner edges of said leaves engaging the convex inner face of the back, for the purpose specified.
3. The combination with a back having inwardly extending ribs arranged along the surface of the same, said ribs having sockets in their outer faces, of arched leaf-retaining members having inwardly bent extremities to engage in said sockets for the purpose specified.
4. The combination with a back having inwardly extending ribs provided with sockets in their outer faces, the inner face of said back between said ribs being convex, of arched leaf-retaining members having inwardlybent extremities to engage said sockets, the middle portions of said members being parallel to said convex inner face of the back for the purpose specified.
5. The combination with a back having inwardly extending ribs provided with sockets in their outer faces, the inner face of said back between said ribs being convex, of arched leaf-retaining members having inwardly bent extremities to engage said sockets, the middle portions of said members being parallel to said convex inner face of the back, and leaves having perforations for the passage of said retaining members, the
rasasei inner edges of said leaves engaging said convex inner face of the back for the purpose specified.
6. The combination with a back having inwardly extending ribs provided with sockets in their outer faces, of arched leaf-retaining members having inwardly bent extremities to engage said sockets. the outer faces of said ribs being beveled inwardly for the purpose specified.
7. The combination with a back having inwardly extending ribs, of leaf-retaining members of spring material having bent ends to engage the outer faces of said ribs, and means for interlocking the extremities of said bent ends with said ribs, the resiliency of the members serving to normally hold said extremities in interlocked engagement with said ribs.
8. The combination with a back having inwardly extending ribs provided with sockets in their outer faces, of leaf-retaining members, of spring material having bent end portions to engage the outer faces of said ribs, the extremities of said end portions of said members being bent inwardly to enter said sockets in which they are normally retained by the resiliency of said members.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification.
