PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM LEAN, OF BROOKLYN, .NEW YORK.
CLIP FOR LOOSE-LEAF BINDERS.
Application filed March 19, 1926. Serial No. 96,013.
This invention has relation to loose leaf binders and has particular reference to an improvement in the devices for connecting the leaves with the binder back.
One of the principal and outstanding objects 0f the present invention resides in the provision of a clip for connecting` the leaves v with the binder back, which clip is detachably associated with the back to permit of its removal therefrom and association with another back.
The invention furthermore comprehends a clip for loose leaf binders which is comparatively simple, strong and durable in its construction, inexpensive to manufacture, and which is highly efficient in its purpose.
`With the above recited and other objects in view, reference is had to the following specification and accompanying drawings in which there is exhibited one example or embodiment of the invention which is in no way intended as a limitation upon the scope of the appended claims as it is to be clearly understood that variations and modifications which properly fall within the scope of said claims may be resorted to when found expedient.
In the drawings-v Figure 1 is a sectional view illustrating the clip in associated relation with the leaves and back of a loose-leaf binder;
Fig. 2 is a fragmentary view illustrating the clip in opened condition;
Fig. 3 is a detail sectional view taken approximately on the line 3 3 of Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawings by characters of reference, A designates the binder back; B the leaves which are apertured or perforated at C, and I) the clip which comprises a base 10, the marginal or peripheral edge 11 of which is rolled over a flexible plate or diaphragm 12 to secure the same to the base. The plate or diaphragm 12 is formed with a substantially medial slot 13 and portions of the plate adjacent the outer en'd of the slot are upwardly offset at 14: to receive and accommodate laterally projecting trunnions 15 at one end of a hook or split ring member .16, so that the plate or diaphragm 12 will function due to its inherent resiliency to retain the opposite free end 17 of the hook or split ring member 16 in either a closed engaging position with the plate as illustrated in F ig. 1, or in an open position with respect thereto as illustrated in. F ig. 2.
Iii-order to detachably associate the clip with the binder back A, whereby a clip of this structure may be interchangeably associated with binder backs, the base 10 of each clip is formed with a projecting substantially spherical stud 18 which is 'designed to be inserted through a keeper opening 19 in the binder back, a receiving and engaging head 20 being provided for frictionally connecting the head with the stud to detachably associate the clip with the binder back.
F rom the foregoing numerous advantages are apparent such as the removal and re-use of the clips with a new binder back after one binder back has become worn or unfit for use, or the removal of the clips with the pages appliedffroin one binder back and the insertion of the same in another binder back so as to transfer the sheets in their order from one ledger to another.
What is claimed is:
1. A. clip for loose-leaf binders, comprising a base, means on said base for detachw ably connecting the leaves therewith, and separable fastening means on said base for lletchably connecting the clip to the binder 2. In a Vloose-leaf binder, including a back having apertures therein, and a clip'for the leaves, comprising al base, a pivoted ring, a
projecting head on the opposite side of the base for engagement through the apertures, and a frictional clampingy element engageable over the head for vdetachably associating the clip with the binder back.
3. In a loose-leaf binder including a back and leaves, a clip for connecting the leaves to the back, having detachable means of con nection with the binder bacln'comprising a separable fastening element. Y
WILLIAM LEAN.
