JULIUS L. MICHALSKI, OIE MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN.
Menem.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 28, 1922.
Application filed August 23, 1920. Serial No. 405,237.
To all 'whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, JULiUs L. Mier-mism, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee and State of lVisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Display Devices; and l do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
My invention relates to new and useful improvements in display devices, which are particularly adapted to be used in connection with barbers poles and the like.
The primary purpose of the invention is to provide a display device which, in addition to having the usual distinguishing` characteristics, includes means for displaying various kinds of advertising matter.
It is also an object of the invention to provide a display device of this character havingmeans whereby advertising` display signs of an interchangeable nature may be used.
With these general objects in view the invention resides in the novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts which will be hereinafter more particularly described and claimed, and shown in the accompanying drawing, wherein- Figure l represents a side elevational view, with parts broken away of a barbers display device constructed in accordance with the invention, and
Figure 2 is a detail transverse section on the plane of the line 2-2 of Figurev l.
Referring more particularly to this drawing, it will be seen that the reference character 1 denotes a vertically positioned hollow casing of a suitable size and length which has a globe 2 mounted on its upper end. l'nsofar as the present invention is concerned, the cross sectional shape of the casing l and the length. and location thereof is immaterial. That is to say, the casing may be square in cross section as shown in Figure 2, rectangular. circular or any other shape and its height is largely dependent upon its location, either on the ground or spaced thereabove.
In any case a vertically positioned opening is formed in the casing and is normally closed by a door 3 hinged along one vertical edge as at t. One preferred manner of mounting the display device is to secure the door 3 to the side of the wall or other stationary object so that the other part of the casing may be swung laterally on the hinges a. The base of the globe 2 rests on the laterally extending flange 5, which projects from the upper end of the casing l, and within this globe is located an electric lamp .6' or the like, current for which. may be furnished from any suitable source.
lVhen the casing l is rectangular in cross section, each of the several walls thereof with the exception of that formed by the door 3 is provided with a plurality of vertically spaced superimposed display openings 7. These openings are of such size and shape as to readily permit of the display signs disposed within the casing being visible. Suchsigns may be of any preferred construction, for instance, they may consist of plates 8 having suitable advertising painted, printed or otherwise formed thereon and secured over the openings 7 by means of rabbeted cleats 9 in which the plates are slidably mounted. In other words the inner surfaces of the walls of the casing` 1 adjacent the openings therein are )rovided with means for holding the plates 8 in such a manner that they can be readily interchanged. ln this way advertising may be placed on display for a predetermined period of time and readily substituted by other advertising matter at the expiration of such time.
I claimt:
A display device comprising an upright hollow post, having sides which taper uniformly from the ground to the top thereof, one of said sides being hinged. to form a door, each of the other sides having a plurality of vertically aligned spaced window openings, vertical rabbeted cleats disposed on the inner faces of the walls at each side of the window openings, and sign plates visible through said openings and slidably supported in said cleats so as to be removable and interchangeable, access being had for this purpose through said door.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand at Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee and State of Wisconsin.
JULIUS L, MICHALSKI.
