UNTED STATES PATENT OFF-ECE DISPLAY STAND Application filed October 10, 1928.V Serial No.,31.1,570.
This invention relates to improvements in display stands and has particular reference to a device adapted to hold a plurality of display cards upon which are printed or otherwise fixed the road distances between various towns situated along the highway.
Another object is to provide means whereby the sign may be collapsed for the purpose of shipping.
A further object is to producel a device which is exceedingly economical to manufacture and therefore one which may be sold at a very reasonable cost.
A still further object is to produce a device l5 wherein the signs may be readily changed from time to time.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent during the course of the following description.
In the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification and in which like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same,
Figure 1 is a front elevation of my device.'
Figure 2 is a side elevation of my device showing the saine in cross section,
Figure 3 is a cross section on the line 3 3 of Figure 2,
Figure 4 illustrates the plurality of display cards which may be placed therein, and
Figure 5 is a cross sectional View of one of the display card holders.
Service stations along the highway form convenient points of information and it often occurs that the operators at these stations are new on the job and are not therefore familiar with the distances between given points.
Applicant has devised a very simple display rack wherein this road information may i0 be displayed so that the person desiring the information can readily gain the same without annoyance to the operator of the station and at the same time with the assurance that the correct information is being received.
Referring to the drawings, the numeral 5 designates a building or other support upon which I attach brackets 6 and 7. Extending between the brackets 6 and 7 is a vertically disposed shaft 8. This shaft forms the support for the display holders proper. Mounted upon the bracket 7 is a bearing plate 9 secured'to which is a base plate 11.V rl`his base These upturned edges serve toy abut a pluralit`y` of` display carrying' plates which aref designated by the numerals 13, 147V 16 and 17. These plates are all identical andtherefore but one will be described.
By' referring' to Figure 3 it will be noted that the plate 13 has its vertical edges bent upon itself so as to form side strips 18 and 19'. These side strips serve to hold the display card 21 slidably positioned therein. By viewing this ligure it will also be noted that the display carrying plates 14 and 17 are slightly less width than the plates 13 and 16, the purpose of which is obvious. Lugs 28 on plates 13 and 16 prevent movement of the plates 14 and 15 toward each other.
A cover plate is shown at 22, which coverl plate has downturned edges 23 and is further provided with an opening into which the shoulder 24 of a top bearing plate 26 rests. rlhe object of this top bearing plate will be later seen. 1f desired a protecting sheet such f as Celluloid may be employed as shown at 27, Figure 5.
The manner of using my device is as follows Assuming that the same is placed upon a suitable support and assembled, the display cards 21 will carry certain information thereon. Should it be desired to change this information, the top bearing 26 is raised to the dotted line position of Figure 2, after which the top plate may be raised at one side as shown in this ligure, after which the information card may be removed and replaced. The downwardly extending edges 23 of the top plate serve to hold the remainingdisplay carrying plates in their relative positions during this transfer. As soon as the top is dropped back to its fulll line position the top bearing plate 26 is returned to its full line position at which time the opening in the top plate becomes sealed by the downwardly depending portion 24 of the top plate 26.
It will thus be seen that I have produced a device which will accomplish all the objects above set forth.
It is to be understood that the form of my invention herewith shown and described is to be taken as a preferred example of the same and that various changes relative to the ma terial, size, shape and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claim.
Having thus described my invention, I claim In a display device, in combination with a support comprising a pair of brackets, a shaft vertically disposed between said brack ets, a bearing plate secured on said shaft, a bottom plate rotatably positioned on said shaft, a plurality of display carrying plates mounted on said bottom plate, anda top plate adapted to overlie said display carrying plates, said top plate having an opening formed therein, a top bearing plate slidably positioned on Asaid shaft, said top bearing plate having a downwardly depending flange formed thereon, said ange extending into the opening of said top plate for the purpose specilied.
In testimony whereof I ai-HX my signature.
HENRY P. LAMAR.
