IMPROVEMENT IN TOYS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 140,206, dated June 24, 1873; application fihd To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HARVEY TEoMAs LEE, ot Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a new and beautiful Toy a-nd I do hereby declare that the follow ing is a full and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the ligures marked thereon.
This invention consists of a slotted cylinder, closed at one end, and provided with a whistle at the other, as will be fully described hereinat'ter.
Figure l represents a side elevation of inynovel toy; Fig. 2, a sectional elevation of the same; Fig. 3, a pla-n view of the disks forming the Whistle; and Fig. 4, a View showing the manner of use.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will now proceed to describe fully its construction and manner of operation.
A reprseents a cylinder, constructed, preferably, of tin, about an inch in diameter, which is closed at one end with a semi-spherical cap, provided with a wire ring, a, or other suitable means for attaching the cord al. The cylinder is provided with the longitudinal slota2,

and has, also, at its lower end, the disks a3 a4, having central orifices, as shown, these disks beinglocated abouta quarter of an inch apart, to form the chamber ac.
The toy is used by whirling it in the air by means of a cord, as shown in Fig. 4, by which means air is drawn into the slot, and forced out through the openings inthe disks, the latter acting as a whistle, and producing a variety of sounds, according to the varying position of the toy in the air.
It' desired it may be .used as a whistle by blowing into the slot.

The toy, consisting ot' the hollow slotted cylinder, constructed as described, and provided with the whistle, as and for the purpose set forth.
