|MPR'ovEMEN-r IN FANS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 148,408, dated March 10, 1874; application led February 4, 1874.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it4 known that I, GUSTAV BRUECK, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Fans; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable those skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming part of this specification, in which drawing- Figure l represents a longitudinal section of my fairwhen the same is closed. Fig. 2 is a similar section of the same when it is open.
Similar letters indicate corresponding parts.
This invention consists in a fan the leaf of which extends from a stem and unfolds in both directions, its end pieces being connected to a spring, which has a tendency to throw the fan open, in combination with a cap and pusherbar, in such a manner that if the fau is closed it can be retained by ,depressing the cap over its end, and by means of the pusher-bar the cap can be forced off and the fan opens. This fan is combined with the stock of a pistol and with its trigger, so that 'said trigger engages with the pusher-bar, and that, when the fan is closed, by pulling the trigger the retaining-cap is forced oft' and the fan flies open.
In the drawing, the letter A designates a fan, which is secured in a stem, B, and which unfolds from said stem in both directions, as shown in Fig. 2. The ends of the fan A are secured to rigid arms C, Which'are hinged to the stem B, and to which is connected a spring, l), which has a tendency to unfold the fan. Through the center of the stein D extends a bar, E, to the outer end of which is connected a cap, F, and when the fan is closed this cap can be drawn down over its end, so as to retain the same in itsclosed position, and when the bar E is pushed out the cap releases Ythe fan and allows the same to open by the action of the spring D. The stem B of this fan is secured in the stock G of a pistol, and the trigger H of this pistol engages with the pusher-u bar E, which is provided, for this purpose, with arecess, a. Theinnerend of saidpusherbar is guided in a socket, b, in the stock When the fan is closed, as shown in Fig. l, and the trigger His pulled, the cap. F is forced out so as to release the fan, and the fan ilies open. v
In order to close the fan, its leaf is folded up, and, forcing the trigger back to the position shown in Fig. 1, the cap is caused to shut down over the end of the fan and to retain the same in its closed position.
The stock G5 can be made of wood, or it may be molded of papier-lach or any other suitable material.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is- W l. The cap F and pusher-bar E, in combination with the stem 13, fan A, and spring D, substantially as shown and described.
2. The combination of a trigger, H, and A stock Gr with the fan A, spring D, pusher-bar E, and cap F, substantially as setforth.
GUSTAV BRUEGK.
