Description

J. B. PEAHLSTIEN.
smm. APPLICATION FILED AUG.14, 1920.
1,401,725, Patented D6U.27,1921.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JULIUS B. PEARLS'IIEN, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
snmr.
"Specification of Letters Patent. I
Application filed August 14, 1920. Serial No. 403,493.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JULIUS B. PEARLSTIEN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the borough of Brooklyn, county of Kings, cityand State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shirts, of which the following is a specification. 4
My improvements relate primarily to shirts, although applicable to other garments of that class, the term shirt being herein used in its broadest sense. Theobject of thev invention is to effectually prevent the workingup and derangement of the lower part of the garment during bodily motion, the
' garment being particularly designed for the comfort and convenience of athletes and others addicted to vigorous physical exer-. cise and exertion of any kind indicating the function of the invention.
The body B, of the shirt may be of any desired form and construction, made in any manner known to the art. The tail however shlrt formed with a bifurcated tail thetwo v is split or bifurcated, the two ends t, t, thus created being convergently curvilinear, and
terminating in apices a, a, formed with means for attachment to the groin flaps g, g, which latter are also of convergent'curvilihear shape, and are designed to extend'ape proximately to the scrotum, the ends thereof being likewise formed with means 9', g,
for connection with the apices a, a, of .the
duplex tail t, t.
The convergent curvilinear form of each tail t, t, is such that when the tail is passed .50 beneaththe body crotch to one side of the scrotum, (the inner edge t, of the tail t, being of relativelyslight curvature as compared with the outer edge .t?) and its apex secured to the corresponding groin flap 9, the medlal portion t ofthe tail will cover the buttock of one leg of the wearer, as indicated in Fig. 2, thus fitting and holding the lower part of the garment snugly and tautly to the abdomen and posterior of the wearer while leaving his thighs free and unimpeded for action.
Thus my form and construction of shirt enhances the comfort and convenience of the Patented Dec. 2'7, 1921.
wearer while facilitating leg articulation. I
F urthe'rmore, the-bending or oscillation of the body cannot draw up or derange the lower part of the garment, which is. kept taut and in proper alinement by the attachment i I of the tails t, to the groin flaps g.
It is to be understood that the tails and groin flaps may be disconnectibly attached to each other by any suitable or known mechanical expedient, other than by means of the buttons and button holes indicated in the drawings, with like result, so that I do not l1mit myself in this respect.
My shirt is not only suitable for general wear, but it is especially adapted to the requirements and exigencies of golf, tennis, foot-ball, and other-athletic games and exercises.
It is obvious that if the wearer prefers, the
tails t, t, may be crossed in front and over the scrotum, etc.,- the right tail being secured to the left groin flap, and the left tail to the rightgroin flap, so as to protect the private parts =thus covered. I -What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is,
As an improved article of manufacture, a
ends thereof being convergently curvilinear and terminating in'apices, the curvature of are in use.
. JULIUS B. PEARLSTIEN.
