Description
UNITE. 'S'lhail NICHOLAS RPPENBEIN', OF NEVI YGR-K, N. Y.
DISPLAY-STAND.
Specification of Letters Eatent.
Patented Dec. 20, 1921.
Application filed January 15, 1921. Serial No. 437,462.
To @ZZ whom t may concern:
Be it known that l, NICHOLAS RirrnNBniN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Display-Sta1id, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to improvements in display stands, particularly to that form of display stand commonly used in retail stores to display to the purchasing public in an attractive way, small packages of candy and similar articles.
An object of the, invention is to provide a cardboard display stand of this character which will serve to display four sides of rectangular articles placed thereupon, and which is provided with numerous conspicuous surfaces for the display of advertising matter.
A further object is to provide a device of the character stated which will be neat and ornamental in appearance, simple and prac tical in construction, strong and durable in use, and comparatively inexpensive to manufacture.
W'ith these and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts, as will be more fully hereinafter described and pointed out in the claims.
in the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1 is a. perspective view illustrating my improved display stand in use.
F ig. 2 is a plan View of the blank from which the display stand is formed.
Referring in detail to the drawings, my.
improved display stand is formed of a single strip of material such as cardboard out and scored along lines to permit folding into the desired shape. The device may perhaps be better understood by describing the position of the parts in operative position, than by first describing the blank in detail.
1 represents the base of my improved stand. The base lies flat against a show case or other supporting surface. 2 represents the inclined back of the stand. The lower end of the back rests against the base and is integral with a platform 3 sloping downwardly from its forward end, to its rear end where it joins the back. The forward end of the platform 3 is supported well above the base by a brace' l which is integral with the platform, and which forms an upwardly and rearwardly bent-extension of the base 1. The back 2 is supported in inclined position by a pair of rearwardly and outwardly en ending supporting wings 5. Tabs 6 can ried by the lower edges of the wings 5 are cut indicated at 7 to form tongues 8 which lock under opening 9 in the flaring rear ond 9 of the base 1. The outer edges of the flaring portion 9 of the base abut against the tabs 6 which fold inwardly from tne lower edges of the wings 5 and under the base, the tongues 8 interlocking with the edges of the opening 9 as above noted and retaining the supporting wings in operative position.
The forward portion 11 of the base 1 widens appreciably from its forward end rearwardly for a short distance. The side edges 10 of this widened portion of the base are integral with ornamental wings 12 adapted to be bent upwardly to Hank the brace 4. Interlocking tabs such as 13, one formed with a slot 14- and the other with a tongue 15, fold inwardly from the wings 12 and lock under the platform 3. These tabs lie along the inner face of the brace and retain the wings 12 in proper position.
Referring now more particularly to the blank illustrated in Fig. 2, it will be seen that a single strip of material, preferably of cardboard, is scored with transverse fold lines such as 16 to define the back 2, the platform 3, the brace Il, and the base 1. The wings 5 form lateral extensions of the back 2 andare foldable along the longitudinal fold lines 17. The tabs 6 are integral parts of the wings and are folded on diverging lines 1S.
rlhe ornamental wings 12 are folded along the diverging fold lines 10 which define the side edges of the flaring forward end 11 of the base. The tabs 13 fold inwardly from the forward edges of the wings 12 on scored lines 20 which form continuations of that transverse fold line 16 which separates the base 1 and the brace a.
lt will be seen that when a suitable number of small articles to be displayed, such as 21, is placed upon the platform 3 and supported against the back 2, the tops and ends of these articles as well as the front faces thereof will be visible. The wings 5 and 12, the brace l, and the upper end of the back 2 all present conspicuous surfaces for the display of advertising matter.
While l have illustrated one of the preferred forms of the invention, it will be apparent that various slight changes and alterations might be made in the general form and arrangement of the parts described without departing from the invention, and hence l do not limit myself to the precise details set forth but consider myself at liberty to make such changes and alterations as 'fairly fall within the spirit rand scope of the appended claims. i Y c y i What l claim is: Y l. A. folding display stand, comprising a single strip of material bent along suitable lines to present a base, an inclined back having its lower end supported on the base, a platform sloping downwardly from its forward to its rear end and forming a continuation of the back,` and a brace connected to the base and supporting the forward end of the platform at an elevation above the base7 means integral with the back and engageable with the basek for supporting the back in inclined position.
