DISPLAY STAND.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, RALPH S. Moons, a citizen of the United States, and resident of the city of New York, in the county and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Display Stands, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to means for displaying articles of merchandise on the show cases or shelves of: a store, and has for its .main object to provide a device of the character stated which shallibe simple in construction, economically made, efficient in use, and adapted to occupy but little space when not in use.

With' the foregoing and other objects in view, hereinafter stated, the invention consists of the novel construction, combination, and arrangement of parts hereinafter more specifically stated and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein is shown a device embodying the structure of the invention in its preferred form, but it is to be understood that changes, variations, and modifications may be resorted to without departing from the scope of the invention.

As illustrated in Fig. 1, a stand embodying the invention in its preferred form is.

provided with an open back and with side walls 2, a front wall 3, and a top 4 having a panel 5 extending upwardly from saidtop. The front wall 3 is preferably provided with outwardly extending wings 5,

' and the top 4 is of a width equal to that of the upper portion of the front 3. The sides 2 are provided with openings 7 produced by cutting away that portion of the side walls to form the extensions or'wings 6 of the front wall. The upper edges of said walls 2 support the'top 4 of the stand, and they are' inclined to correspond with a similar inclination of the top. The side walls are also provided with terminals 8 having lips 9 formed thereon adapted to engage correspondiug recesses formed in the panel 5 and enable the edge of the terminals 8 to bear against and support the panel 5. The lips 9 may be turned over on to the panel 5, and

hold the terminals 8 in fixed with the back of the panel.

The lower portion of the front 3 of the stand is formed integral with the side walls 2 and, therefore, when the parts are assembled,'as shown in Fig. 1, the frontand anel engagement of the stand are secured to the parts orming the side walls 2.

In Fig. 5 there is illustrated a blank from I which the device shown in Fig. 1 is made, in which the forward part of the front 3 is connected with the lower portion of the side walls2 along a scored line 10, whereby the side walls may be bent relatively to the front wall.

The top 4; and anel 5 of the stand are formed integral with the front thereof, and

are provided with score lines 11 and 12.

That portion of the blank comprising the panel of the stand is provided with "slots 13 ada ted to engage the lips 9 of the terminals of the side walls of the stand.

In the construction shown in Fig. 1, the

lips S) onthe ends of the side walls engage the back wall of the stand. That is not an essential feature of the invention, however, and in some instances lips 14 may be formed on the side walls engaging slots 16 formed partially in the top and partially in the panel of the stand, as shown in Fig. 7

- wherein the side walls, front wall, and top' If desired, the stand may be constructed without an upstanding panel portion, as shown in Fig. 9, wherein the rear extension of the top 4 of'the stand is turned downward and backward walls are provided with lips 17 engaging slits in the downwardly turned extension 19 of the top of the stand.

In some cases, where designed for special use, or even for general use, the panel extending upward from the top of the stand, instead of being rectangular in outline, may be modified, and if desired made in circular form, as shown by 20 in Fig. 10. In such cases, the side walls 2 of the stand may be provided with wings 21 arranged at an angle to the side walls and provided with lips 22 engaging corresponding slits formed in the panel 20 of the stand.

In all of the constructions shown in Figs. 1, 7, 9, and 10 the upper margin of the front wall is preferably provided with a lip 23 extending above the top 4:, and serving as means for retaining articles of merchandise upon the top of the stand, and preventing displacement thereof. A similar lip may be formed on the rear margin of the top of the stand shown in Fig. -9 cut out from the back panel 19.

The panel extending above the top of the stand may be further modified, as shown in Fig. 11, wherein the panel is formed wit-h a vertical portion 24. and a circular portion 25 formed therewlth. In such construction, the top of the stand is provided with a lip 26 which. engages a corresponding aperture 27 formed on the lower margin of the panel of the stand, so as to hold the inner portion of the top of the stand in engagement with the panel. In such construction the rear margins 28 of the side walls of the stand extend upwardly along and bear against the outer margin of the lower portion of the "panel of the stand, as indicated by dotted lines in Fig. 11, and one of said margins or extensions maybe provided with a gummed edge 29 by means of which that portion of;

One of the important features of the invention consists in the fact that'in carrying out the underlying idea, structures of varying forms may be produced to suit the fancy of the user'thereof. or the purpose for which. the stand is to be used.

Another feature of the invention consists in the adaptability of the stand to receive and effectively display a maximum of advertising matter without interfering with the portion thereof designed to receive the goods to be displayed, and in addition thereto. the stand occupies a minimum of space rclative to its capacity for displaying merchandise.
