Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented h-eph Application filed September 20, 1919. Serial No. 325,151.
T all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LUCIEN PAUL Book, a citizen of the French Republic residing at Paris, France, (Whose post-ollice address is Rue Eobiueau No. 1,) have invented certain new and useful improvements in Safety- Fastenings for. Hair-Slides, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to hair slides of the kind comprising for fixing purposes, a double pin pivoted at one end on the slide and engaging at the other end with a retaining device, the fixing being efiected by clasping' a tuft of hair between the slide and the pin. i
The present invention consists in a type of closure in which the movement of the element which effects the hooking and unhookis made parallel to the slide and in which said movable element is held in its closed position by the spring which is ordina ily interposed between he slide and the pin on which bears the tuft of hair caigght. The result of ti is arrangement is that the hair slide or harrette can not be opened by accidental pull which generally takes place in a direction perpendiculer to the barrette, and iliat it will be retained the better as the mess of hair caught up is greater.
()ne particularly advantageous mode of construction hercniei'ter descrinedby way of example. is eonipanying drannig's.
In this mode of'construction the pivot of the pin is fixed on the slide, the retaining hook is arranged so as to be capable of oscillating around an axle being maintained in the fixed position by a spring blade ivhich runs in the some direction as the slide and is pivoted at one end on a heel of she hook and slidingly guided at its other end in a suitable path.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 shows a sectional elevation, and Fig. 2 a plan VlPW of the fastening device M +1. lllllSteiLhBd in she constructed according to the present invention.
lhe slide is provided at one end with ears 2, at the upper part of which is pivoted a pin 3 and at the other end with a fiat hook 4 which is capable of oscillating and is pro vidcd with a head 14 being pivoted on an uxjlc 5. which is maintained in a fold of the slide. The pin 3 has two branches (see Fig. 2) which join together at 12 and are con- 2. Owing to this arrangement t e end 10 of the spring blade is (lilptillfi of sliding when it is brought back toward the slide 1, end in all positions; its end which pivots on 4 v1 "r i .1 u .9 i the (ii-lie 8 15 1oz ceo ion .11 e slide, ohereh alivavs oring'ing the hook nto its hookin .L'. T 1 D POSILIOD. he slide 1 is provided with ribs 15 Ior increasing its rigidity andpreventing ts derori'nation.
The working The she fected by pr 14 or the hook is ef e head arising as to liher to the of the slide is as foil f closed, its openiir U l l i ith the iin tl to t 1.; the end 13 of the '11 3 so crossrneinher 12 it"on'i the projection of the hook 4. in order to fix the hair slide, a tuft of heir is clasped between the pin 3 and the spring blade 7, and pressure exerted on the end of the pin 3 in order to force back toward the slide; in this movement the cross-piece 19- ineets the inclined face of the projection of the hook and causes the letter iio tip to the right. lien the crosspiece 12 relezsed by the end oi projection o. the hook +2 ih "prize 4 presses open toe heel and the hook i is mine niatically hrou lit into the position. llhen the pin thus engaged under the re teining hook. the action of the spring-blade upon the heel 9 retains it with a force which is the greater, the larger the size of the tuft of hair.
it is to he understood that the mode oi eonstruction which has just been described is g'i en only by Way of example and that it is possible to effect many modifications without departing from the spirit of the invention.
ll' hat Tl claim 1. A fastening device for hair slides c0mprising a slide. a pin pivoted to one end of said slide, a pin retaining device at' to simuitaneo'hsi lock the hair against the pin and t6 main .1111 the retaininq de vice in a closed'a pm'rtion with respect to the pin,
2 A fastemgvig device for hair sli (10s comprising a slide, a pin pivoted at one end 0f said slide, a retaining hook for said pin pivoted at the other end. of the slide and mow ihg parallel with said slide, :1 head on said.
