In an eyelash curler, comprising two arcuate jaws movable relatively to each other in a direction parallel to their axis of curvature to a position in which they overlap, the jaws are rotatable angularly with respect to each other. As shown, a jaw 1 has rigid connections 2 to a handle 3 longitudinally bored to receive a stem 4 which is movable axially and angularly and provides a support for connecting wires 7 of a jaw 5 which is chanelled to receive a rubber pad 6. A spring 10 urges the jaw 5 to a position in which the jaw 1 rests on the pad and is overlapped by the serrated edge 8 of the jaw 5 to curl eyelashes inserted between the jaws. In use the jaws are opened by retraction of a knob 9 and the jaw 1 laid against the eyelid the closing of the jaws on release of the knob 9 being arrested by finger pressure on an arm 16 when the points of the serrated edge 8 engage the eyelashes to " comb '' them. The jaw 5 is now turned by means of the arm 16 so that the eyelashes are directed away from the nose and the upward bending of the eyelashes completed by releasing the arm 16. In a modification the operating knob 9 and a rotatable ring member on the base of the handle are provided with projections which abut to arrest the closing action of the jaws when the outward bending of the eyelashes is due, full closure of the jaws being achieved only when the knob 9 has been rotated. A setting for right and left eyes is obtained so that the eyelashes may be bent only in a direction away from the nose.
