[Class 131] A hair waving and setting device comprises a comb 10 for forming a wave disposed between clamping members 24, 25 for holding the wave when formed and means actuated by the clamping members upon their closing movements to retract the comb from the wave forming portion. The comb 10 is attached to plates 11, 12 provided with a vertical slot 13 and horizontal slots 14, 15. The clamp comprises members 16, 17 pivoted on a pin 30 and provided with handles 18, 19 normally held apart by a spring 38 and carrying clamping jaws 24, 25 having stamped out teeth 28, 29. The jaws are shaped to form a pocket within which the comb 10 is received in its retracted position as shown in Fig. 4. The pivot pin 30 passes through openings formed in ears 21 ... 23 in the arms 16, 17 and also through the slots 13. The ears 21 ... 23 are provided with arcuate slots 34, 35 engaged by pins 36, 37. On opening the clamp by the handles 18, 19, the pins 36, 37 move the comb 10 into the position shown in Fig. 6 when it may be used to form a wave. On releasing the arm the jaws will close and the comb be raised. In a modification the pins 36, 37 are replaced by studs and the slots 34, 35 differently shaped.
