612,961. Hair curlers. DEHN, S. G. (Gaylord Products, Inc.). June 11, 1946. No. 17484. [Class 131] In a hair curler having a pair of pivoted hairgripping members and a collar, provided with a pivoted U-shaped locking bail and rotatably mounted on the pivotally connected members, one of the members is provided with a protuberance for selectively engaging one of a number of spaced recesses in the collar to yieldably resist rotation of the collar on the members. As shown in Figs. 4 and 6 the gripping members 11, 12 are pivoted to each other at 13 and at the region of pivotal attachment are encircled by a collar 21 the grooves 22 and 23 of the collar and gripping members respectively engaging so that the collar and the locking bail 27 pivoted thereto on pins 29 can be rotated but cannot be translated axially with reference to the gripping members. A projection 26 on the member 12 engages one of a number of depressions 24 on the inside of the collar so that after a tress of hair has been wound close to the scalp the collar can be rotated so that the bail can be locked in its most advantageous position by engagement of inturned portions of the bail with the grooves 32.
