COMBINED CORSET AND CORSET-WAIST.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 17, 1920.
Application filed January 24, 1919. Serial No. 272,975.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ISABELLE RoUssIN, a citizen of France, and resident of Buenos Aires, Argentina, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Con sets and Corset-Waists, of which the following is a specification.
This invention refers to an improved combined corset and corset-waist forming a single piece or garment, and presenting the following advantages over the corsets and corset-waists heretofore known or used.
My improved corset is made of an elastic cloth, with the exception of the part which corresponds to the bosom, which permits a complete freedom of movements of the body, eliminating entirely the whalebones in the body of the corset, which together with the elasticity of the cloth used in making it, facilitates the movements of the body in any direction, however violent they may be, without undue eifort on the part of the wearer. The part corresponding to the bosom cover is purposely made of another kind of material in order to avoid the continuous pressure to which the bosom would be subjected if the said part were made of elastic cloth. On the other hand, pains have been taken to insure that the bosom shall remain in its natural position without being subject to pressure of any kind, resulting in complete repose of the same, so that great relief is immediately felt as compared with the use of ordinary corsets. As
regards the material used in the making of the part passing over the shoulders (or shoulder parts), it is essential that this be of elastic cloth which will adapt itself freely to the movements of the body, especially when the wearer wishes to stoop forward, as for example, in search of an object on or near the floor. Another of the great advantages obtained by the use of this corset consists in the fact that, whereas in the use of ordinary corsets, in the upper part thereof where the greatest pressure is exercised upon the body, in the case of stout women the excessive adipose overlaps the edge of the corset; this is impossible in the corset of my invention for the reason that with its use the said pressure is eliminated, giving to the wearer a greater perfection of form, elegance and curve. Following the same order there is also obtained the distinct advantage that in the upper abdominal region, the cloth being elastic exercises a light pressure which prevents the dilatation of the stomach, since it produces there what may be called a mild and continuous massage.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a front view of the improved combination corset and corset-waist in the closed position;
' Fig. 2 represents a rear view of the same, and Fig. 3 is a front view of the same in half open position.
In the latter figure, there is seen in the inner part of the corset the part a of elastic cloth which serves as a support and at the same time exercises a pressure upon the stomach which produces the above mentioned effect of a mild and continuous massage.
It will be understood that the illustrations given in the accompanying drawings are in the character of a specimen construction only, and that changes may be made in the details and proportions according to the various kinds of figures to be fitted, etc., without thereby departing from the spirit of the invention, as set forth in the following claim.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to protect by Letters Patent of the United States of America, is
A corset, comprising a waist and hip portion, said corset being open at the front from top to bottom and also open at the back from the waistline downward, and provided with fastening means at the front and with lacing cords at the back; the bosom portion of the waist being made of inelastic material, and said waist havin portions to pass over the shoulders, said s oulder portions together with the back of the waist and the hip portion being made of elastic material.
ISABELLE ROUSSIN.
