4 Claims.
My invention relates to improvements in bathing suits and trunks and in athletic suits, trousers and trunks. The object of my invention is to provide a garment having the dual functions of an athletic supporter and of the ordinary trunks suit, shorts or trousers. My invention saves time and trouble by requiring a minimum of effort since it may be put on in one operation whereas two operations are necessary to put on a supporter and trunks separately. B providing the two functions in one garment the supporter cannot b misplaced but is always at hand. Furthermore a separate supporter when disclosed to public view is an embarrassing object but the supporter in my invention is so hidden and disguised that no embarrassment results. My invention is an improvement over ordinary bathing trunks in that the latter at best have only an inner front shield which is rigidly attached at both top and bottom to the trunks proper. This shield must move with the trunks proper and when the latter is loose the shield necessarily is loose and offers no support. In contrast my invention provides support at all times whether the trunks proper are loose or snug. This result is obtained by fastening only the top of the supporter front rigidly to the trunks proper and by providing elastic bands which fit around the legs and hold the supporter front and bottom snug to the body. My invention will result in a saving in manufacturing costs since trunks and supporter separately take more materials than my invention, the elastic abdominal band being eliminated in the latter.
Figure 1 is a front view of the garment turned inside out to show the inner supporter; Figure 2 is a back view of the garment also inside out; Figure 3 is a side view of the supporter showing its shape after sewing.
Similar letters refer to similar parts through out the several views.
a is an ordinary pair of bathing trunks. b is the supporter front formed in two parts in Figure 1 and sewed along seam d. Supporter front b is sewed to a in Figure 1 by stitches 9. Figure 3 shows shape of b from the side. Supporter front I) has sewed to it at h and at :i in Figure 1, elastic bands which hold the supporter front and bottom snugly to the body. Elastic bands 0 are each guided through guide tapes :2 which tapes are sewed to th back of the garment as indicated in f in Figure 2.
It is understood that although bathing trunks are used in the drawing and description this invention is not limited to bathing trunks alone but embraces bathing suits and athletic shorts, suits, trousers and trunks as well.
I am aware that prior to my invention athletic supporters as well as bathing suits and'trunks and athletic suits, trousers and trunks were made and I make no broad claims for my garment as such; but
I claim:
1. A single garment comprising an outer trunklike portion having two holes for the legs and one for the body; an inner lining inside the trunklike portion and secured to the upper inside front thereof, said lining being shaped to cover the greater part of the abdomen and to extend to and terminate between the legs; and elastic bands fastened at their bottom ends to the bottom of the lining and at their top ends to the top of the lining, the sides of said lining and said bands forming loops for the legs.
2. In a single garment; an outer trunklike portion having openings for the legs and body trunk; an inner lining fastened to the inside front of the trunklike portion along the waistline, said lining being shaped to fit the abdomen and provide a support for the genitals; and bands having longitudinal elasticity, said bands being fastened at their bottom endsto the bottom of the lining and at their top ends to the top of the lining, the sides of said lining and said bands forming loops for the legs.
3. A single garment comprising an outer part in the shape of trunks; an inner part fastened at the top to the top inside front of the outer part, said inner part having a longitudinal center seam extending from top to bottom whereby said inner parts i shaped to the contour of the lower extremity of the body trunk forming a covering for the abdomen and a supporting pouch for the genitals, said inner part terminating between the legs, being fastened at that point to the lower ends of two longitudinally elastic bands, the top ends of said bands being fastened to the top of the inner part.
4. A single garment comprising an outer trunklike portion with openings for the legs and body; an inner lining fastened horizontally along its top edge to the top inside front of the trunklike portion, said inner lining being shaped by a longitudinal center seam to fit and cover the abdomen and provide a pouch for the genitals, said lining being fastened at the lower extremity, between the legs, to the bottom ends of two longitudinally elastic bands, said bands being guided through guide tapes and fastened at their top ends to the sides of the lining at the top thereof, said guide tapes being fastened to the back of said trunklike portion on the inside thereof.
