'1 APPAREL GABMENT.
T 0 all whom imag concern:
Be it known that I, VVALDEMAB Kors, a citizen of the United States, residing in the borough of Manhattan, city, county, and State of New York, have invented an lmprovement in Apparel Garments, of which the following is a specification.
This invention re-late-s to an apparel garment and more particularly to that type of garment shown and described in my applications, Serial Nos. 491,103, liled August 10, 1921 and 554,521, filed April 18, 1922. This type of garment is one that is made to wear next to the body as a combined under vest, corset and brassire, the garment performing the functions of all three of the garments named so that instead of wearing three garments in the use of my improved garment but one may be worn. This garment is preferably made of relatively light weight material which is sufficiently yielding to permit the garment to perform its intended functions and sufficiently soft to prevent the garment from injuring the skin. The material of which the garment is constructed is also preferably a Washable Vmaterial so that the garment may be laundered in the usual manner of laundering under garments. While this garment is adapted for general use it is particularly serviceable as an under garment to vbe worn in athletic sports, dancing and other similar exercises where entire freedom of movement of all parts of the body is necessary or desirable and which cannot be obtained in the use of stayed corset garments, as commonly constructed. Furthermore, and to this end, the garment is so constructed as to completely cover the body from substantially the bust to the thighs and to support and confine the busts as well. as to confine the hips, thighs and abdominal portions ofthe body of the wearer. f
The garment made in accordance with-the present invention preferably comprises a bust member adapted tol extend around the body to support and confine the busts, and a hip, thigh and abdominal member also adapted to extend around the bodyto confine the hip, thigh and abdominal portions thereof. The membersv of the garment are preferably connected along a predetermined-l line extending from substantially one axillary portion of the bust member to the corresponding edge thereof and from approxi- Application filed October 5, 1922.` Serial 1\To--592,472.
mately the central portion of the hip, thigh anc abdominal member to the corresponding axillar portion thereof, this line of connection extending along a portion of the lower edge of the bust member and along a portion of the upper edge of the hip, thigh and abdominal member. v The construction is such, therefore, that the bust member is adapted to extend around thebody from the front to the jback and to be adjustablyconnected at the back, whereas the hip,'thigh t and labdominal member extends around the body from the back to the front andis adapted to be adjustably connected at the front, with the front upper edge of the hip, thigh and abdominal member overlying a portion vof the lower edge of thebust member so that the garment completely covers the body from substantially the busts-to the thighs, as will 4behereinafter more particularly described. Y
In the drawing: Fig. 1 is a perspective View of `the garment made'in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is al plan view of the parts ofthe garment extended, and j f Fig. 3 is an enlarged elevation showing the position ofthe parts of the garment in use.
Referring to the drawing, the garment made in accordance with this invention comprises a bust member which may be constructed of a plurality of sections. As illustratedA this bust member is formed offront sections 10 and 11, and back sections 12 and 13. lThe front sections are connected along a line of stitching indicated at 14, while the front section 10 is connected to the yback section 12 alongla line of stitching 15, and the lfront section 11 to the back section 13 along a line of stitching indicated at 16. This member of the garment is adapted to extend around the body from the frontto the back. Art one edge the bustv member is provided with a reinforced section 17 in ywhich there is a series of eyelets 18, and at :the opposite en'd with a corresponding reinforced section 19 in which there is a similar number of eyelets 20. At this edge ofthe garment the same may be divided as `indicated at 17 and one edge provided with a series of hooks 18 and the other edge with a corresponding series of-eyes 19', inorder, as hereinafter described to assist the wearer in adjusting the garment to position on the body. This `member of the garment may also be provided with suitable shoulder straps indicated at 21 and 22, and the lower edges of the back sections may be inclined or tapered as indicated at 23 so as to extend upwardly from the edges of the member toward the front sections thereof, while the lower edge portion 24 of 'the front sections 10 and 11 extends appreciablybelow the adacent portions of the back sections 12 and 13.
The hip, thigh, and abdominal member may also be made of a plurality of sections, and as illustrated this member consists of a back section 25, side sections 26 and 27 and front sections 28 and 29. rl`he back section 25 is connected 'to the side section 26 along a line of stitching indicated at 30. The baclt section 25 is connected to theV side section 2"? along a line of stitching indicated at 31. The side section 26 is connected to the front section 28 along a line of stitching indicated at 32. The side section 27 is connected to the front section 29v along a line of stitching indicated at 33. As shown in the drawing this member .may be provided with gore sections 34 and 35 placed in the lower portions thereof respectively between the side section 26 and the front section 28 and the side section 2i and the front section 29. At one edge the hip, thigh and abdominal member is provided with a-reinforcement indicated at 36 and in which there is fitted a series of eyelets 37.v lSimilarly the opposite edge of this member is reinforced as indicated at 38 and provided with a corresponding series of eyelets 39.
rlhe hip, thigh and abdominal member may be provided with suitable hose supporters indicated at 40, 41 and which, as shown, are preferably attached to and depend from the gore sections 34 and 35. The hip, thigh and abdominal member is also connected to the bust member. As illustrated, this connection is made along the line of stitching indicated at 42 extending along a portion of the lower edge of the bust member from one aXillar line thereof to the corresponding edge which, when the parts are attached, is substantially coincident with the upper central portion of the hip, thigh and abdominal member at the back thereof. This is rclearly illustrated in Fig. 2 of the drawing.
the body from the frontr to the bach, while the hip, thigh and abdominal member passes around the body from the back to the front. It will also be apparent that the upper portion of the hip, thigh and abdominal mei-nr ber at the front overlies the lower front portion of the bust member so as to cause the garment to completely cover the body from substantially the'bust to the thighs.
I claim as my invention:
1. An apparel garment. for use as a combined under vest, corset and brassire adapted to completely cover the body of the wearer from substantially the bust to the thighs comprising bust member, and a hip, thigh and abdominal member, the said members being permanently connected along a line extending from one end of the bust member along the lower edge thereof to the axillar portion of the same and along the l upper edge of the hip, thigh and abdominal member from the central portion thereof to the corresponding anillar portion, the lower edge at one end vof the bust member being substantially coincident with the central portion of the upper edge of the hip, thigh and abdominal section, means for connecting the ends ot the. bust member at the back of the wearer, and means for connecting the ends of the hip, thigh and abdominal section at the front of the body of the wearer.
